Located in the Oxfordshire countryside near Faringdon, in the beautiful Carswell Manor, St Hugh’s is a leading co-educational preparatory school educating some 350 boys and girls aged 3-13. Pupils at St Hugh’s benefit from a rounded day and boarding offering that places as much importance on welfare and enjoyment as it does on academic success. A spirit of inclusivity and collaboration sits beneath the excellent levels of achievement, with a supportive atmosphere providing a strong foundation for the growth and development of every type of character and style of learner. Life inside the classroom is complemented by a thriving co-curricular programme with the most able challenged towards excellence just as those less confident are encouraged to participate and learn.
The ethos of St Hugh’s is informed and reflected by its key values of kindness, respect, independence, collaboration, courage and curiosity, principles upheld by its professional, dedicated staff and embodied by its pupils. Pastoral care, mutual support and personal wellbeing are the school’s top priorities, and because of this commitment, pupils feel a sense of duty to one another and are inspired to put others ahead of themselves. St Hugh’s mission is to instil the qualities of selflessness, resilience and purpose in its pupils so that they leave the school quietly confident and equipped with the necessary skills to rise to the challenges of their senior school careers and having made lifelong friendships along the way.
The Board of Governors now seek a new Head to join the St Hugh’s community in 2023. The successful candidate will be wholly committed to the school’s ethos and values whilst also being ambitious for its future. This person will be an empathetic leader capable of inspiring staff and pupils alike, with the clarity of vision required to lead the school forward into its next phase of its development. They will possess the educational knowledge to maintain and enhance the “St Hugh’s Experience” alongside the business acumen to ensure the school’s robust financial position is maintained. Most importantly, the next Head will bring the leadership skills required to engage and nurture the whole St Hugh’s community and will build upon the school’s existing reputation for excellence to secure its future and realise its full potential.
