Job overview

TEACHER OF HUMANITIES

We are looking to appoint an Outstanding Teacher or NQT Required September 2018.

Castle View School is a welcoming, diverse, innovative place to work where children are given the opportunity and inspiration to pursue academic excellence as well as develop personally.  We, as a school community, have developed a growth mindset where failure is an opportunity for growth and that nothing is impossible.  We have the ethos that students, staff, parents/carers, governors and local businesses can and will collaborate and work effectively in partnership to create an environment where students can “be the best that they can be.”

We are looking for a candidate who: -

  • Believes that every student, regardless of their background, can make outstanding progress.
  • Is rigorous, relentless, determined, creative and inspirational in their style and presence as a leader.
  • Utilises a variety of teaching methods to present engaging, thoughtful lessons and CPD sessions.
  • Is caring and has the drive and passion to continue to develop strong relationships and the wellbeing with staff, students, parents, governors and the local community.

The ideal candidate will be able to display dynamism and determination.  This is an exciting opportunity to join a team who truly aim to make a difference, not only to student life chances and successes, but also developing young people who contribute to society with kindness and confidence.

We aim to do this through:

  • The development of productive, positive working relationships, so every student is valued as an individual who is known and respected within an ordered and purposeful community that prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life in modern Britain.
  • Inspiring the next generation, encouraging ambition and aspiration by fostering excellence in learning through first class teaching.
  • An engaging, broad and balanced curriculum that develops the skills of creativity, problem solving and investigation whilst promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.

If you want to make difference to our students and local community, please contact karen.eaton@castleview.essex.sch.uk for an application or to arrange a visit to our school.  Please note that only those applicants who are asked to attend for interview will be contacted.

Closing date: 23/02/2018.  Interviews are expected to be held week commencing 26/02/2018.

Castle View School is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people.  The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check, medical clearance and good references.  We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if there is a good level of response.  Therefore we would recommend that you submit your application as early as possible.

Castle View School was designated a Specialist Science College in September 2004. In 2006 we became a satellite venue for the East of England Science Learning Centre, providing the South East base for sharing good practice and providing quality training in Science education at all levels.

As a Specialist Science College, we continue to provide an ethos of excellence, high aspirations and expectations. Pupils are offered a broad and balanced curriculum which is underpinned by a philosophy of continuous improvement in all subjects but especially in Science and Mathematics.

However, as a Specialist College our brief extends beyond the boundaries of the school. We are committed to raising the profile of Science and Mathematics within the Canvey community, working in partnership with the other Island schools and community groups. We are a Petroplus partnership school.

The current regeneration projects – most importantly the Thames Gateway initiative and the 2012 Olympiad – are relying on a motivated, highly trained, progressive workforce and we recognise the part we have to play in preparing young people for these exciting career opportunities.

The redesignation of Castle View as a Specialist Science College in September 2008 allows us to continue to provide the Canvey community and its young people with the enhanced opportunities they richly deserve.

Our Mission Statement

• To raise the long term aspirations of our pupils and the community of Canvey Island

• To inspire our young people, to develop enquiring minds and broaden horizons

• To be at the cutting edge of developments in the teaching of Science, Mathematics and ICT

• To promote Science, Mathematics and associated subjects as the central components of our broad and balanced curriculum

• To encourage the use of scientific evidence to inform choices and decisions

• To provide enhanced opportunities for everyone in the school and the community to excel in the areas of Science and Mathematics

• To extend individuals’ abilities to apply scientific and mathematical principles in a variety of contexts

• To ensure that Science and Mathematics permeate our curricular offer as a whole
