Townsville Catholic Education is currently seeking an Information and Resources Adviser.  This is a full time, permanent position commencing as soon as practicable.

About the role

The Information and Resources Adviser provides leadership and support and professional development to key personnel in schools in the areas of: 

  • Library development 
  • Information management 
  • Information literacy 
  • Literacy 
  • Resourcing 
  • Copyright 
  • Resource management 

The Information and Resources Adviser is a member of the Learning and Teaching Team.  They will support the delivery of faith education programs for adults and students in the Diocese of Townsville and the provision of information and resources to the Townsville Catholic Education Office (TCEO). 

The role complements and supports learning and teaching initiatives across all learning areas of the Australian Curriculum including Religious Education and indigenous priorities within the Diocese of Townsville 

Key Accountabilities

  • Overseeing the daily management and running of the TCEO’s Library Resource Centre
  • Maintaining the Library Resource Centre database according to national SCIS standards
  • Developing a collection which meets the goals specified in the collection development policy. The collection supports Religious Education, curriculum, Indigenous Education, Inclusive Education and School Administration and Leadership.
  • Managing the TCEO’s subscriptions
  • Managing the resources and information needs of the professional employees of TCEO
  • Providing reference and resource services to schools, TCEO employees and other Diocesan Agencies
  • Promoting the use of the Library Resource Centre, it’s resources and services to schools, TCEO employees and other Diocesan Agencies
  • Assisting TCEO employees, schools and other Diocesan Agencies with copyright compliance
  • Providing professional advice and service to school library personnel and act as the Diocesan Co-ordinator for networking with these library professionals in schools.

As a Learning and Teaching Team member:

  • Working with the TCEO Learning and Teaching Team to ensure that information literacy and literacy outcomes are being addressed in schools
  • Working with Curriculum personnel in schools and ITS to integrate information skills into teaching and learning
  • Assisting schools with the development of library collections which support delivery of the Curriculum in innovative ways
  • Promoting the use of the information process as a framework for the development of information skills and as the basis for systematic monitoring of students’ development as information users
  • Providing professional development in effective integration of information resources and technologies to ensure quality student learning outcomes.

As an Information Specialist:

  • Assisting schools to provide access to information resources through efficient and well-guided systems for organising, retrieving and circulating resources
  • Providing training and assistance to school staff in effective use of these systems
  • Interpreting information systems for teachers in the context of planning and implementing Curriculum programs (Resource-based teaching)
  • Providing specialist assistance to schools in using technology and information resources for developing independent research skills
  • Promoting the use of online resources in classroom programs, to assist in planning and for professional development. (Britannica Online, Clickview, Sora and Scootle)

As an Information Services manager:

  • Assisting schools to develop policies, procedures and criteria for selecting and evaluating resources which meet Curriculum, informational and student recreational needs
  • Assisting schools to develop information systems and services responsive to student and teacher needs within the context of their school development plans
  • Working with Library Resource Centre staff to ensure that the day-to-day administration of the Library Resource Centre is efficient, and that systems, resources and equipment are well maintained
  • Assisting schools to develop budget estimates and to prioritise spending to ensure that teaching and learning requirements are being met
  • Assisting schools to develop stimulating Library Resource Centre environments which are a focal point and showcase for student’s learning achievements
  • Promoting the effective use of resources and information sources, systems and services both within and beyond the school.

Mandatory Criteria

  • Current Working with Children Suitability Card or eligibility to obtain same *
  • Librarianship qualifications
  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner.

* The successful candidate will require a paid Blue Card before commencement as per the No Card, No Start policy developed by Queensland Government.

Desirable Criteria

• Appropriate Tertiary qualification with registration or eligibility for registration with Queensland College of Teachers
• Masters of Teacher/Librarianship
