Located just outside the city of Oxford, OLA is an independent, Catholic, coeducational day school welcoming girls and boys  aged 7 to 18 of all faiths and none. The Literacy and Reading Support Coordinator will assist the English Department in promoting pupils’ reading, creative writing, arranging talks by visiting authors and encouraging students’ use of the resources of OLA’s Ratcliffe Library. The post holder will be based in the library and will liaise with the Head of English to coordinate the best use of the library periods allocated to each form. The role also involves carrying out administrative tasks in the Library, including cataloguing and shelving books. 

We welcome applications from qualified librarians, as well as those with other relevant qualifications, background and experience.   This is initially a one-year appointment (September 2021 – July 2022) which could be extended beyond this for the right appointee.  For full details of the position please see the attached Application Pack.

The ideal candidate:

  • A good degree in  English or a related discipline
  • A qualified Librarian
  • PGCE or equivalent
  • Experience of working with children and young adults
  • Team player with ability to work flexibly as part of a team
  • Flexible in outlook and attitude
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Patient, friendly and approachable
  • Enthuiastic
  • Understanding and supportive of the School's ethos

Abingdon-on-Thames is an historic, modern market town situated eight miles south of Oxford, with its world renowned reputation as a centre of academic excellence. The town has undergone recent development to upgrade the central shopping area providing a selection of restaurants, cafes and bars situated a just few minutes walk away from the river and gardens of Abbey Meadows. The town supports a mixed international community and has excellent bus links to Oxford, which is just a 15 minute ride away and provides a wealth of social and cultural opportunities.
