Temporary R&R Payment of £2,000 for 1 Year

Applications from NQT’s are welcome

The Discovery Academy is seeking to appoint a Nurture Class Teacher. This post is suitable for those with either a primary or secondary school background, with a strong understanding of SEND and how to meet pupils’ needs. The successful candidate will be working in a dedicated area within our secondary Academy with other dedicated staff who want to achieve the best possible outcomes for our cohort of young people.

In Years 7 and 8 we operate 2 Nurture classes in each year group in addition to the standard classes in each year group. The nurture classes follow an approach where each class is taught by a limited number of teachers for all core and EBACC subjects in order to support full transition into our large academy environment and create a more nurturing environment. Specialist subject teaching, such as sport, DT and ICT is taught by other specialist staff and is increased over time, so that by year 9, pupils are able to fully access subject specific teaching from across the Academy. Our current team have been identified as providing very strong provision within our academy.

As one of our Nurture Group teachers you will have experience of teaching pupils with a range of vulnerabilities, challenging behaviour or SEND, and above all, have the desire and drive to see the most vulnerable young people in society succeed. You will be a positive, highly resilient and adaptable individual who can ensure challenges are met and problems are solved. A high level of understanding of SEMH, SEND, attachment and trauma sensitive approaches, safeguarding, and a good understanding of literacy and numeracy progression will be important.

At the Discovery Academy our guiding principle is to ‘expect excellence’ in everything that we do, to ensure our students ‘Aspire’. ‘Aspire’ represents the aims, values and behaviours that we strive towards (Ambitious; Skilled; Positive; Independent; Respectful; Equipped) and our curriculum is designed to support students in reaching these. Alongside a curriculum that offers breadth and ambition, strong pastoral support ensures students are kept safe and are well looked after and ensures a sense of family is felt throughout the Academy.

The Academy boasts outstanding facilities, a state-of-the-art learning environment and was judged ‘Good’ following an inspection by Ofsted in January 2019. Our growth programme includes a £2 million additional teaching facility, as well as the benefits a large Academy can offer, such as a comprehensive professional development and leadership opportunities.

The Alpha Academies Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all its employees and volunteers to share this commitment.  This post is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced check by the Disclosure and Barring Service along with other stringent vetting and induction processes.

If you feel that the position is of an interest, you have the right experience and skills and are ready for fresh challenges, then we would love to hear from you.  For an application form and recruitment pack please see our website, https://alphaacademiestrust.co.uk/vacancies/  Should you need any further information regarding your application please contact our Recruitment Team by email at recruitment@alphaacademiestrust.co.uk
