Job overview

‘Learn, live and develop'

In an inspiring setting, students at Eerde learn, live and develop into the people they want to be.

Eerde International Boarding School Netherlands has a vacancy for a Pastoral and Boarding Manager. This role involves supporting our residential students, and overseeing the pastoral support provided within our school. Candidates must be enthusiastic and dedicated, and have fluent English language skills.

The successful candidate will lead an established and capable team of boarding parents to ensure that we offer a “Home away from Home” for our residential students.  Together with the team, the successful candidate will ensure that processes and procedures become embedded in order to help guide support students in the best way.  Additionally, the successful candidate will be the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the school, working with deputies to ensure the safety and pastoral care for our students, always in a way that follows Dutch requirements.  Child welfare and safeguarding requires the candidate to have a clear vision of the processes involved and significant previous experience in this field.

Start date: TO BE CONFIRMED

Closing date for applications: 31 December 2020

The successful candidate will work with the boarding team to ensure that our resident students are supported and cared for during their time on campus.  A key part of the role is to work with students of various age groups in our boarding houses, supporting them to fulfil their social requirements and to ensure that the necessary care is in place to ensure their safety and wellbeing. Crucial to success in this endeavour is building close, nurturing bonds with students, who are usually living away from their families for the first time. Helping students to navigate the loneliness and dislocation that can arise in this situation is critical in ensuring their ability to settle within the boarding houses. The role therefore requires clear leadership skills, and a cultural sensitivity as well the ability to identify, understand and coordinate the needs of a young person.

The role is also inclusive of the Designated Safeguarding Lead.  Within this role the successful candidate will work to ensure the social and emotional wellbeing of everyone in our community. It is crucial that there be a coordinated approach to safeguarding, whereby all aspects of safeguarding and wellbeing--both in school and boarding--are considered.

The successful candidate will also be part of the school Management Team, being a liaison between the team in boarding and the students, as well as bringing together and sharing safeguarding information as required. It is essential that the successful candidate leads the team with clear vision and planning, and excellent communication skills, and that he or she brings a valuable set of skills to the management team.
