We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled and committed teacher on the Tiwi Islands (a short plane or ferry trip 80km north of Darwin). Working at Murrupurtiyanuwu Catholic Primary School, offers teachers an opportunity to be immersed in the friendly and welcoming Indigenous community and experience life alongside the Tiwi people. Murrupurtiyanuwu Catholic Primary School is a collaborative environment where teachers work together in teams.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

  • Ability to gain Teacher Registration in the Northern Territory and obtain a current Working with Children Clearance Card (Ochre Card)
  • Willingness to support and contribute to the Catholic Ethos of the school and the development of a strong school culture
  • Excellent teaching skills
  • Strong, positive and consistent behaviour management strategies
  • Excellent organisational skills and teaching expertise
  • Willingness to work collaboratively in a team approach
  • Willingness to work and live in a remote, Indigenous community
  • Experience in working in a remote Indigenous community or with Indigenous students
  • Experience Jolly Phonics, Accelerated Literacy, MAI and iPads in Education
  • Qualifications and experience in EALD/ESL (teaching English as an additional language or dialect)
  • Experience working with Indigenous staff

Murrupurtiyanuwu Catholic Primary School is situated on Bathurst Island, 80 km north of Darwin. The school provides a Quality Catholic Tiwi Education to the 211 children enrolled in classes from Pre-School to Year 6. The school has a strong focus on Literacy, Numeracy and Religious Education as well as to its Indigenous Language and Culture (ILC) program which is taught by Tiwi teachers.
