Job overview

We seek to appoint an outstanding SEND Teacher with Autism specialism, teaching  a small class of pupils following a ‘ small schools model’ enabling successful transition between key stage 2 and 3. The successful candidate would also benefit from outstanding behaviour management skills.

The successful teacher would benefit from being primary trained with the ability to build excellent relationships, and have a real experience in nurturing vulnerable students. This role is a maternity cover and you will be working in a well-resourced and state of the art building.

The successful candidate will deliver the main elements of the KS3 curriculum  including English, Maths and the Humanities to a small class size of 15 to 20 students whilst also  providing a nurturing ethos.

The Nurture Group is a unique class within Conisborough College that will give Year 7 students the opportunity to achieve their full potential, regardless of ability, levels or language skills, and enables them to live these core values each and every day.

The main purpose of the Nurture group is to provide a safe, predictable, and supportive class for pupils to enjoy their learning and catch up with key Literacy and Numeracy skills and concepts in Year 7. Pupils have additional lessons in Nurture to focus on these skills; they have a more differentiated curriculum than that followed by the mainstream students, and have additional focus on Social Skills, developing confidence and also promoting independence.  The aim of the Group is to support pupils with securing the basics and bridging the achievement gap to enable them to make a better transition into Mainstream.

Therefore, the successful candidate will oversee the smooth transition from Year 6 to Year 8 for students whose prior learning, attainment and emotional needs are not initially suited to secondary education. This will be achieved through taking responsibility for teaching the Year 7 curriculum with an identified group of Year 7 students together as one class and supporting targeted students in other lessons.

You will work closely with the Inclusions team which is overseen by the Assistant Headteacher of inclusion who manages the SENCo and Inclusions Manager.

The school is located within the London Borough of Lewisham with good transport links and within easy walking distance of Bellingham Station and with ample car parking for our staff, and is situated next to a local park.

The right candidate will be totally aligned to our values of aspire, believe and succeed and completely committed to our mission; ensuring all students achieve outcomes that empower them to lead purposeful and successful lives.

Closing date for applications is  Monday 1st June 2020 at 12 noon.
