St Teresa's College, Abergowrie is a Catholic secondary boy's boarding college.  Located in an ideal rural setting in the heart of the Herbert River Valley, the College is approximately 30 km north west of Ingham and situated on Warrgamay land.  The main industries are sugarcane, forestry, and cattle.  Abergowrie is close to Wallaman Falls which is the highest single-drop waterfall in Australia and the beautiful Broadwater National Park. 

The role of School Officer - Engagement Officer will establish and coordinate the development of the after and out of College activities programs for students at St Teresa’s Catholic College. Within the scope of a support and administrative function, the School Officer – Engagement Officer provides assistance with the implementation and coordination of Indigenous education initiatives within the College community.

The School Officer – School Engagement, will be required to undertake a broad range of administrative tasks to support the Emerging Leaders Program and will offer diversity with scope of work being undertaken and will be required to work variable hours depending on the needs of the program. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Represent St Teresa’s Catholic College and the Emerging Leaders Program as a liaison/network between the students, College, government and non-government agencies to ensure best possible assistance is available
  • Provide efficient and effective administrative support to the College Emerging Leaders Program
  • Develop an understanding of the Emerging Leaders Program and assist with the design of programs and initiatives that support the key accountabilities of the program in context to student’s needs
  • Support the delivery of operational tasks associated with Emerging Leaders Program:
  • Undertake tasks and support initiatives related to the engagement of Indigenous students
  • Maintain a commitment to the continual improvement of the program
  • Establishing student records and folios
  • Maintaining student records for auditing purposes
  • Communicating with students with regard to their leadership journey and applying strategies and supports to assist
  • Assist with communicating and celebrating the achievement of Indigenous students and staff (e.g. NAIDOC week)
  • Deal professionally with and directing enquiries appropriately regarding the program
  • Data entry to support registrations and record management.
  • Any other task as reasonably directed to support the effective operation of St Teresa’s Catholic College.

Experience

  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and embrace new ideas
  • Administrative experience to support program coordination in a diverse environment
  • Computer literacy across various programs and platforms
  • Demonstrated understanding of principles of customer service.

  • Knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and protocols
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds

Mandatory Criteria

  • Current Working with Children Suitability Card or eligibility to obtain same
  • Tertiary qualification at certificate level or equivalent knowledge and experience relevant to the position
  • Current Driver’s Licence

Desirable Criteria

  • Recent administration experience in a school or other environment.
  • Experience work with youth.
