Job Purpose 

The core purpose of this role is to provide professional leadership and management of the secondary school in line with the Ajman Academy mission to empower students with a holistic, rigorous and international education for success in an ever-changing world. The Secondary Principal will promote our core values of Achievement, Collaboration, Integrity, Respect and Responsibility, building a secure foundation from which to achieve high standards in all area of the school’s work.

The main responsibilities of the Secondary School include:

  • Overseeing and coordinating the work of the Secondary Senior Leadership Team
  • Meeting regularly with the Secondary Senior Leadership Team to ensure the smooth running of the Secondary School
  • Coordinating with the Primary School Principal and the MYP Coordinator on the smooth transition of students between the programmes offered by the school
  • Coordinating with the MYP Coordinator on the best utilization of faculty, resources and facilities shared between the programmes
  • Coordinating with Primary Principal and interested parties on the most effective whole-school Calendar for each academic year
  • Coordinating with Primary Principal and interested parties on the production of the most effective Timetable for each academic year
  • Ensuring that Secondary students receive appropriate services and support from Special Needs, Counselling  and the CAS Coordinators.
  • Ensuring that accurate and up-to-date records of students performance and progress are maintained
  • Ensuring that parents are regularly informed of the performance and progress of their children in all areas of school life
  • Advising parents of any particular problems or difficulties pertaining to their children
  • Advising parents of any disciplinary action being taken in connection with their children’s behaviour
  • Ensuring that students are fully informed of the expectations of the school in terms of both academic and behavioural standards
  • Ensuring that all Secondary School students are dealt with fairly, ethically and consistently in all areas of their school lives
  • Ensuring that school rules are consistently and fairly applied by all members of the Secondary School team
  • In cooperation with the SLT ensuring that all members of the Secondary School team are appraised according to the schedule and tools authorized by the Director
  • Monitoring, and coordinating with the Finance Manager on, the utilization of the annual budget allocated to the Secondary School
  • Recommending to the Director changes in budget, programme, facilities or faculty for the following year.
  • Coordinating with the Director to ensure that the professional development needs of colleagues are met.
  • Coordinating with the Admission Department and the Primary School Principal on the admission of students to the Secondary School
  • Ensuring that all students entering the Secondary School meet the expectations of AJAC in terms of academic performance and behavior
  • Ensuring that all students, and their parents, joining the Secondary School are aware of the rules, standards and expectations of AJAC
  • Promoting the Secondary School and its programmes in the school and in the community
  • Promoting, encouraging participation in and supporting activities
  • Teaching such classes as may be agreed with the Director
  • Such other duties as may be assigned by the Director within the terms of contract and Conditions of Service

Reporting Relationship:

The Secondary Principal is a member of the Executive Leadership team and is responsible to the Director for the organization, management and operations of the Secondary School in accordance with the philosophy, policies and procedures set by the school.

Your Qualifications:

  • Hold a degree in a related field plus a teaching certificate
  • Master degree in related field will be an advantage
  • Have significant previous leadership and management experience for more than 5 years preferably in IB schools
  • Have a minimum of 5-7 years teaching experience
  • Familiar with UAE culture
  • Have significant previous leadership and management experience
  • Have extensive knowledge of the MYP & DP, curriculum delivery, design and innovation for the appropriate age range
  • Have excellent ICT, writing and leadership skills
  • Have excellent spoken and written English 
  • Have a creative, dynamic, attractive and outgoing personality
