We wish to appoint a Teacher of R.E. The successful candidate will join a dedicated and talented department and impact the whole school community as part of one of our core subjects.

In 2023, 27% of the school's GCSE grades were a 9-7/A*-A grade. 85% of students secured a Level 4 or above in Maths and 89% of students gained at least a Level 4 in English Language or English Literature. 82% of students achieved at least a Level 4 in 5 or more GCSEs including English and Maths. At A Level, 35% of grades were A*-A and 55% were A*- B.

In our previous graded inspection, ‘Behaviour and Safety’ and our Sixth Form were judged ‘outstanding’. In our most recent monitoring visit (April 2022), Ofsted stated that ‘this is a caring community, where all pupils are welcomed and included in the Fisher Family. The work of leaders and staff is guided by shared values, centred on dignity and respect for the individual. These values provide a unifying thread for all aspects of school life.’ Whilst it is not a requirement to be Catholic to apply for this position, applicants are expected to be sympathetic and supportive of the Catholic ethos.

The Religious Education department is a vibrant, exciting area of the school and is constantly working toward our shared vision of nurturing young Catholic gentlemen. RE is a core subject at The John Fisher School and has achieved pleasing results. In June 2023, GCSE results showed the hard-working nature of the staff by producing 80% 4+ and 20% 7+. The results at A-level 2023 were fantastic with 100% A*/C, producing an outstanding ALPS report. Pupils have gone onto study politics, philosophy, ethics, and economics at University. There is a rich ethos of teamwork in the department which extends between students and staff. Students are given ample opportunity to express their faith and develop leadership skills. We have a ‘Subject Captain’ who is available to all students for support with the subject. The ‘Philosophy and Ethics club’ is on each Wednesday for students to grapple the big questions of life. Students are encouraged to develop their faith at John Fisher by participating in mass, collective worship, sacraments of reconciliation, stations of the cross and much more. The RE team is strong and consists of eight members of staff. The department currently has four classrooms with state-of-the-art equipment for quality first teaching housed in the new Sir David Lane building. This is an excellent opportunity to experience leading a Core subject area and to join a vibrant and forward thinking team. The successful candidate will help continue the growth and success of the department which enjoys excellent leadership, experience and support.

Applications should be made via the TES website by the closing date of 4pm on Wednesday 22 May 2024. Interviews will be on Friday 24 May.

The school reserves the right to interview and appoint before the closing date if a suitable candidate be found. Therefore, we welcome early applicants.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS will be required.
