KS3 Horn of Africa Unit - 9 lessons

9 lessons covering the human and physical geography of the African continent, with a particular focus on the Horn of Africa. Lesson titles and synopsis as follows;

1: What is Africa like? - addressing misconceptions
2: What is the physical Geography of Africa like? - mapping rivers, mountains and countries as well as looking at climate and biomes
3: How do we measure development? - an overview of development indicators
4: What factors have affected development? - an exploration of the role that climate, conflict and colonialism have had on development in the Horn
5: How does employment vary in the Horn? - introduces employment structure, and examines the coffee industry
6: How can we close the development gap? - a closer look at how tourism in Djibouti and Fairtrade farming in Kenya can close the gap
7: How is population changing? - introduces natural increase and migration
8: What is the difference between migrants and refugees? - explores migration patterns in the Horn through a reading text, and looks at refugees fleeing to the Horn
9: What is desertification? - introduces the challenge of desertification
