Our apprentices are a key part of our journey and we are looking for apprentices in our Catering Services Department.  

Wigan and Leigh College catering services provides high-quality catering for students, staff and visitors across 5 sites. This post will be based at Wigan College but you may be asked to work at other sites to meet business need.  

The duties associated with the role will include you:

 •To prepare, cook and serve a selection of hot and cold foods for a counter style service for students and staff at a busy college. 

•Follow the procedures for both food hygiene and health and safety. 

•Customer interaction and customer service skills including cash handling 

•Retail skills for filling confectionary and drinks. 

•Be part of a team that reports directly to the Catering Manager.  

Skills required: 

•Good communication skills 

•Good numeracy and an ability to count takings, issue change. 

•Good personal presentation and personal hygiene  

Personal Qualities: 

•Reliable 

•Punctual 

•An interest in hospitality and catering 

•Customer service skills

Wigan and Leigh College is a further education college in Wigan, Greater Manchester, which has been providing education and training locally for more than 150 years. It employs around 1,000 staff and has a student roll of about 17,000. Further education students can choose the A-level professional honours programme or vocational qualifications such as BTECs. An expanding higher education portfolio of foundation degrees, top-up degrees, higher nationals and certificates is available to adult students of all ages, both full-time and part-time. 

Wigan and Leigh College operates from several sites across the borough: the Parson’s Walk Centre, School for the Arts and Pagefield Centre are in Wigan, close to the town centre. The Image Centre and Leigh College are close to the town centre of Leigh.
