We are recruiting for a 0.5 Trainer/Assessor and 0.5 Teacher in Animal Care. You will perform the role of trainer/assessor and deliver national qualifications and other learning programmes within a variety of settings, ensuring achievement of agreed performance and quality targets. You will be expected to strive to maintain above average success rates in all areas, using innovation within your teaching and assessing and utilising e-learning opportunities where appropriate.
As part of the 0.5 teacher role you will deliver the practical and theory aspects of the Animal Care curriculum across levels 1,2 and 3. You will be required to deliver high quality, inspirational teaching which encourages learners to reach their full potential, promoting progression on to higher level courses or preparing them for careers working with animals. As part of the Animal Care team you will be required to participate in the resourcing and preparation of the course delivery and assessment, undertake course administration including setting and reviewing academic targets with learners.
You will take an active part in course related trips and visits, recruitment of learners and supporting the work experience that learners undertake as part of their course as well as ensuring that all college and awarding body standards are met.
The successful candidate will have proven experience of providing outstanding support for learners and will be flexible, self-motivated and dedicated to student achievement and quality. Up to date knowledge and experience of animal husbandry including exotics, small mammals, large farm animals and birds are essential. Training and/or assessing experience in the Animal Care curriculum is desirable.

Derby College is a large general further education college with four sites in or near the city of Derby. It supports around 26,000 learners, who choose from more than 1,000 full-time and part-time apprenticeship, A-level, BTEC and NVQ courses.
Derby College was established as a single institution in 2002 by merging three further education colleges: Mackworth Tertiary College, Wilmorton Tertiary College and Broomfield Agricultural College. A merger between South East Derbyshire College and Derby College was approved in 2010. Heavy investment has been made by the college in its teaching and learning facilities, from the fully equipped teaching kitchens at the Roundhouse campus to the high-tech science labs at the Joseph Wright Centre and the Equestrian Centre at the Broomfield Hall campus.
