Highfurlong School is a four times Outstanding special school academy in Blackpool, providing education for pupils aged 2-19 years with a wide range of special educational needs.

We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Head of School– with the main role of SENDCo and Designated Safeguarding Lead. The successful candidate will play a central role in the Leadership Team, providing strategic vision and operational deliverance on all matters linked to this post and whole school leadership. The successful candidate will have leadership experience in at least one of the roles of SENDCo or DSL, or preferably both areas. The successful candidate will be a qualified SENDCo, or be willing to complete the National SENDCo (NPQ) qualification as part of their CPD.

As Lancashire’s Education Establishment of the Year 2023, National School of the Year 2021 and the UK’s Happiest School of the Year 2019, Highfurlong School is looking for enthusiastic, caring and dedicated people to join our Highfurlong team. We are looking for someone who;

  • Has highly developed leadership skills and experience as a SENDCo and/or Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Has experience of whole school leadership
  • Can demonstrate a detailed understanding of school systems and procedures- particularly in the statutory areas of SEND and Safeguarding
  • Can demonstrate up to date knowledge across all areas of the Educational Landscape
  • The ability to coordinate a multi-agency approach to meet the needs of the pupils and the school
  • Has experience of leading and managing the EHCP process and knowledge of the statutory annual review process
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of trust and integrity at all times
  • It is preferable that candidates have successfully completed specific leadership training, such as the NPQSL or above. Candidates must be willing to engage continuous professional learning and training.
