Are you a class teacher with a passion for supporting pupils who are neurodiverse and/or who have suffered adverse childhood experiences? Are you interested in how biology affects behaviour? Are you nurturing, understanding and resilient?

Teachers who work at Fern House gain skills for life which often fast track them into leadership. We are looking for a resilient, hard-working individual who is committed to self-reflection, understanding mental health and teaching neurodiverse children. This is by no means an easy role and it does not suit everyone, but those who are successful will benefit from being part of a highly skilled, supportive team of like-minded individuals who will take the time to both support and celebrate you!

Fern House School is a special school for pupils aged 5 – 16. We promote and adopt approaches based on attachment theories and neurobiological research to provide our pupils with a supportive framework, which allows them to be heard and understood safely. Our highly adapted curriculum ensures that all pupils can engage in learning and achieve something to feel proud of.

We encourage applications from people from all backgrounds and aim to have a workforce that represents the wider society that we serve. We pride ourselves on being an employer of choice. We champion diversity, inclusion and well-being and aim to create a workplace where everyone feels valued and a sense of belonging.

What more can we offer?

  • An enhanced salary to reflect the needs of our pupils
  • A supportive environment with Sandwell Charter Mark accreditation
  • A MacBook for every teacher
  • Attendance incentives – paid days off for 100% attendance
  • Staff parking on-site
  • A brand new state-of-the-art school building
  • Recently judged to be a GOOD school by Ofsted & Personal Development judged as Outstanding

As part of the Connect Education Trust, we are strongly committed to providing high quality professional development and career progression for all staff. We are constantly reviewing our practices to ensure that our staff can focus on what matters, providing a rich environment in which children can learn and thrive. We are able to offer significant opportunities to work in collaboration with colleagues across the Trust. Staff are able to be involved with developments within the curriculum in areas that interest them. We encourage expertise and a staff team that supports one another to develop their own practice by creating remarkable futures for all pupils.

The Connect Education Trust is committed to safeguarding, therefore all employees working within the Trust must have the ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of our children and young people. All candidates are required to complete the school’s ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ declaration and will be asked to apply for an Enhanced Check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). For posts in regulated activity, this will include a barred list check.
