Job overview

Outwood Academy Portland places students at the centre of everything it does, with a focus on creating a culture of success, a positive climate for learning, and increased student attainment, achievement and social and emotional development.

Starting as soon as possible, we are seeking to appoint a committed individual to work as part of a dedicated team of staff. We seek colleagues who can effectively supervise students across the age range 11 to 18 covering lessons for absent colleagues. The post will offer the opportunity to work in a wide range of subject areas across the curriculum. The position is an ideal opportunity for someone wishing to pursue a career in education. The successful candidate will need to be flexible as they will be expected to cover at any of our Worksop sites.

Our staff are dedicated to securing the best possible outcomes for every student and are enormously proud of Ofsted’s Outstanding rating awarded in 2014. The hard work of both students and staff culminated in student progress placing the academy well within the top 5% of schools nationally and in 2016 88% of our students achieved A*-C grades in both English and Maths, helping place us in the top 10 schools nationally on pupil progress.

We are a warm and welcoming academy, where students are placed at the heart of everything. Behaviour across the academy is impeccable. There is an innovative focus on the development of learning and teaching, along with a wealth of exciting curriculum opportunities to ensure that students reach their full potential.

The Academy benefits from being part of the Outwood Family of Schools, which affords opportunities for staff to work and progress across several schools if desired. We will guarantee every member of staff CPD and a further comprehensive programme of professional development is provided through the teaching school at Outwood Grange Academy.

Visits to the Academy are encouraged and warmly welcomed.

Details and application forms can be found on our website at www.outwood.com or contact our HR Department on 01909 471023.

Closing date: Midday on Wednesday, 17 January 2018.

Interview date: Wednesday, 24 January 2018.

The Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to DBS and health checks.

We are proud that Outwood Academy Portland is rated Outstanding by Ofsted. We are an 11-18 academy based in the large friendly town of Worksop, near Sheffield and Nottingham.

Since joining the Outwood Family in 2012, our students have achieved impressive exam result success.

We have created an educational environment where staff and students constantly strive to improve; where teachers sharpen their skills and expand their repertoires to deliver an outstanding learning experience; and where teachers, classroom assistants, mentors, tutors, inclusion support assistants and students operate as a seamless team. This enables everybody, staff and students, to not only see but also help fulfil the potential in each other. Following its latest visit, Ofsted noted that our ‘teachers and support staff comment positively about the opportunities they have for regular training to develop their skills.’

We believe our success speaks for itself as we are above the national average for the number of students achieving at a Grade 5 or above in English & maths GCSEs. We are also proud to have been awarded Bronze Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

If you share our vision, join our family.
