Job overview

This exciting position has arisen due to the relocation of one of our two Deputy Headteachers.

Our school is at the heart of the Bude community, with 1148 pupils on roll, including 148 in our successful Sixth Form. Our caring, energetic and ambitious students are a real credit to us, and we love working alongside them to help them achieve amazing things every day. In our recent Ofsted inspection, on 16th and 17th May 2023, it was noted that “Pupils are happy and get on well with one another. They value the warm relationships they have with staff. Leaders have high expectations of pupils’ behaviour. Pupils meet these expectations, so the school has a positive and purposeful atmosphere”. It was also noted that our experienced staff enjoy working at Budehaven Community School, and are proud to work here.

As a school, our number one priority is to ensure that all of our children are safe, and have the best possible quality of education possible. To achieve this, we need a Deputy Headteacher who is highly skilled, experienced, knowledgeable, and who shares this passion for Teaching and Learning. We are looking for someone who looks, thinks and works relentlessly, in a wider sense, to ensure we are the best we can be, as a team. We have recently invested in the Tom Sherrington “Walkthrus”, and this will form an integral part of our work on Teaching and Learning. We have a staff who have a thirst for new knowledge in the world of teaching and learning. If you have the positivity, drive, determination, coupled with an ability to set the standard and hold all staff to account, then we would love to hear from you.

The successful candidate will have incredibly high standards for everyone and all they can achieve, whilst being approachable by students, staff, parents and other members of the community. The focus on the areas for improvement will be relentless, and there will be regular meetings outside of normal school hours, with leaders across the school, to ensure the areas are addressed, with the needs of our young people at the centre.

At Budehaven Community School we are committed to the safeguarding of our students and the successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check

About Budehaven Community School

Budehaven Community School is located on the beautiful north Cornwall coast in the town of Bude.
We are proud to be a fully comprehensive school, providing education to students from ages 11 to 19.
Our school also benefits from a thriving, successful Sixth Form, an Area Resource Base and an  Integrated Health Centre.
Partnerships are really important to Budehaven, and we have many  partners, ranging from local primary schools, to secondary schools  nationally, and a successful international relationship with Assossa,  Ethiopia.

Budehaven  Community School is a thriving environment to be part of, and  its  energy is tangible from the second you walk through the door. As you  walk  around our school, the energy of the students and staff is  infectious. The  stunning work of our talented young people is on  display around the school and  in our stylish Bistro Art Gallery, aside  that of local artists for all to  appreciate.

We celebrate talent, skill, effort and difference, and the results of   this are evident in every part of the school community. Walls of  Excellence in  classrooms display outstanding student work, the  fundraising activities and  competitions that take place across our  Houses bring out the generosity of all  members of our Budehaven family,  the national and international sporting  competitions that we are so  proud of our students for competing within, and the  musical talents of  our students, ranging from the Jazz Band to the Samba Band  further adds  to the atmosphere.

We are proud to have been judged to be a GOOD  school by Ofsted (February, 2017).  Our students achieve well: younger students  follow a mastery  curriculum that builds on prior knowledge and understanding in  a spiral  way, linking ideas within and across subjects. As a result, Key Stage 3   prepares them well for the challenges of GCSEs. Our Year 11 students’  GCSE  results in 2018 showed a year on year increase in the number of  students making  good progress, and the percentage of students that  achieved a Grade 5 or higher  in English and maths was significantly  higher than other local schools.

We are  incredibly proud of our Sixth Form,  which provides a range of A Level and BTec  courses that cater for the  academic requirements of all members of our school  community, leading  to them achieving top results. We are also very proud of our  Sixth Form  students; every year many of them go on to Oxbridge, Russell Group,   national and international universities.

Budehaven students and staff are proud of our school and the community  it  serves. We are ambitious for our students, academically and for  their  development into curious young people. Our students understand  and can  articulate their thoughts and ideas on a wide range of topics,  from climate  change to politics, economics to science. They look beyond  their locality, look  at the world in wonder, and become thoughtful and  productive members of  society.

We welcome anyone who would like to come and visit our school community,  and cannot wait to show you all the amazing things we have to offer!
