Job overview

We are currently looking for a full time English as an Additional Language (EAL) Teacher to join our Senior School in Voorschoten from August 2024.

At the BSN we are passionate about a high challenge, high support approach to language acquisition and aim to deliver a progressive syllabus that guides students through essential first steps, integrated content language learning and continued academic literacy support. We believe that the mainstream curriculum provides the ideal vehicle for language development and we base our teaching materials on texts and genres from across the secondary curriculum.


We aim to:

  • Develop student confidence and promote a positive learner identity.
  • Develop functional English so students can meet their needs and take full advantage of the opportunities on offer throughout the school.
  • Develop the academic speaking and listening skills students need to access and respond to a demanding curriculum.
  • Develop accuracy in reading and writing so students can express themselves clearly and follow the conventions of different academic genres.
  • Build relationships with colleagues across the school to develop their understanding of the needs and expectations of multilingual students.


The Role:

You will be teaching small, mixed level groups of students aged 11 to 16 as well as working in-class to support language development in mainstream subjects. You will be expected to contribute to the EAL learning environment, and the school as a whole, by promoting academic literacy and additive bilingualism to support the development of the whole child.


The Candidate:

We would like to hear from highly qualified language specialists who are motivated by working with English language learners students in this age range. Candidates will be used to assessing individual language needs and supporting progress with engaging and challenging tasks. You will also have significant experience in scaffolding social and academic language for learning at all levels and be able to create your own resources to support language development across the curriculum.

Candidates should also be able to team teach and build close relationships with subject departments. A working knowledge of mainstream subject curricula and experience of teaching IGCSE ESL, IELTS or similar would be an advantage. Bilingual candidates are particularly welcome to apply.


What BSN Offers:
