We are looking to appoint an outstanding teacher of English with experience, this may also bring a TLR responsibility to lead English learning at KS3. The Norwood School is a forward thinking Performing and Visual Arts School, optimistic and ambitious for all. The outstanding achievement of pupils is testament to this. Norwood consistently outperforms other schools in terms of pupils’ progress whatever the pupil’s starting point. We achieve this by our commitment to a personalised approach and focus on the individual.

 

The English Faculty is well established with real strength in Teaching and Learning. Staff have high standards and are ambitious for students. Throughout KS3,4 and 5 there is an engaging and creative curriculum pathway which promotes mastery and enjoyment of English. This is evidenced in the positive outcomes for students and the number of students wishing to continue studying English at KS5.

 

The successful applicant will be an excellent practitioner and highly organised, with a proven track record of strong results, successful implementation and development of their own planning and initiatives and a commitment to ensuring that learning is engaging, innovative and challenging. Located in West Norwood, South London, The Norwood School is a Local Authority, mixed secondary school with a Performing and Visual Arts specialism. There are 1100 students on roll including a sixth form of 200 students.

“Students’ achievement is best when teachers make good use of assessment to set a demanding pace. In a Year 9 mathematics lesson, rapid learning activities with regular assessment meant students quickly developed the confidence to apply the skills of expanding brackets to a variety of problems. Students benefited from immediate identification of their misconceptions and moved on without delay.”
