Summary

St Philip's School seeks to appoint a talented and reliable Level 3 EYFS Teaching Assistant to help support us in providing an exceptional education to the pupils in our care.


The successful candidate will join St Philip's at an exciting time as it begins to take pupils from the age of 4 for the first time in addition to its traditional age range of 7 to 13.

Independent prep school for boys in Years 3 to 8, founded in 1934 and located on its foundation site in South Kensington. Set to expand into EYFS provision from September 2024.

JOB DETAILS

Responsibilities 

·      Creation and management of a caring, supportive, purposeful and stimulating environment which is conducive to children’s development, both inside and outside the classroom.

·      Assistance for the teachers in identifying clear teaching objectives and learning outcomes with appropriate challenges, and high expectations and taking into account the children’s interests and the School’s schemes of work.

·      Assistance for teachers in delivering high-quality, differentiated lessons across the Early Years curriculum, managing groups or individual pupils and ensuring all learners have equal opportunities.

·      Development among the pupils of positive attitudes to learning, promoting independence, creativity and imagination and celebrating their achievements in child-friendly ways.

·      In collaboration with the teachers, observation, assessment and tracking of children’s attainment and contribute to reporting procedures.

·      Promotion of high standards of behaviour among the pupils, safeguarding their health and safety.

·      Occasional supervision of the class, focusing on maintaining good order, under the guidance of teaching staff and within an agreed system of supervision.

·      Occasional work or supervision one-to-one with a child who may require additional support.

·      Supervision of activities outside the classroom including but not limited to pupils playing in the garden.

·      Promotion of strong links with parents and carers.

·      Attendance at parent's evenings and, if asked by the class teacher to, other meetings with parents.

·      Attendance at internal meetings in support of the above.

 

General 

·      Duty to promote and safeguard the welfare of the boys.

·      Acting as a form tutor for a small group of boys, overseeing their day-to-day pastoral development and communicating with their parents. 

·      Supervision duties as required. 

·      Provision of an after-school activity (4.00pm to 5.00pm). 

 

Person Specification 

The successful applicant will have the following qualities: 

·      Knowledge of the Department for Education Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and statutory requirements.

·      Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding procedures.

·      A good level of competency in the use of IT in the classroom and beyond.

·      Level 3 qualification, deemed ‘full and relevant’ by the Department for Education to contribute towards appropriate EYFS staff-to-child ratios.

·      Ability to inspire boys in finding enjoyment in their learning and to guide boys in laying strong foundations for their learning in later years.

·      Willingness to contribute to the life of a busy, happy and ambitious London day school on a wide variety of fronts

·      Ability to be supportive of the School’s Catholic ethos.


Flexibility

This job description reflects the main responsibilities of the post. However, the post holder should be willing to undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head Master.

 

Hours

This job is full time. The School opens from Monday to Friday at 8.00am and closes at 5.00pm. A part time position for the preferred candidate will be considered.
