Job overview

The Bradfield Group, incorporating Bradfield College, St Andrew’s School and Bradfield College Enterprises, is seeking an experienced Group Director of Marketing and Communications to lead strategic and operational marketing, communications and public relations and to take a key leadership role in helping to position the Group for future success and development.

Bradfield College has inspired generations of young people to make a difference to the world since 1850. Set in a stunning rural Berkshire location, Bradfield provides an outstanding day and boarding education to approximately 850 pupils, comprising 350 girls and 500 boys from 13 to 18 years of age. The College enjoys a well-established reputation for being one of the UK’s leading co-educational independent schools where pupils develop as well-rounded, independent young adults within an atmosphere of empathy and tolerance. St Andrew’s, a highly successful prep school with 325 pupils aged 3-13, located just two miles from the College, joined the Bradfield Group in December 2021. As well as these two schools, the Group comprises the enterprise division of the College, (including Bradfield Commercial Limited).

Reporting to the Headmaster of Bradfield College, the Group Director of Marketing and Communications will be a key member of the College’s Senior Leadership Group and assist in delivering the Bradfield Group’s strategic aims. The post holder will have overall responsibility for developing and delivering outstanding marketing, communication and public relation strategies as well as promoting and protecting the reputation of The Bradfield Group and enhancing communication with all internal and external stakeholders. The Group Director of Marketing and Communications will act as an in-house consultant to key ‘clients’ amongst the Bradfield Group’s senior management and, in particular, work in close collaboration with the Senior Deputy Head (Admissions) of Bradfield College, the Head Master and the Director of Admissions of St Andrew’s School, the Director of the Bradfield Society and the Directors of the various businesses in Bradfield College Enterprises.

The successful candidate will have significant senior level experience of Public Relations, Communications and/or Marketing at a high-profile brand or organisation and display an understanding of, and belief in, the aims and ethos of independent education in general.

Potentially interested candidates are encouraged in the first instance to contact our recruitment partner David Stephens of Joining The Dots on 07739 457000 (or david@davidconsulting.co.uk) for an informal and confidential discussion about their appetite and suitability for this role.

Candidate applications comprising a CV and covering letter (addressed to Dr Chris Stevens, Headmaster) should be sent to David Stephens at david@davidconsulting.co.uk, and will be considered as they are received.

The closing date for applications is 12.00pm, Tuesday 4th June 2024.

We expect that longlist candidate interviews will take place at Bradfield College on Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th June 2024, with further shortlist interviews on Tuesday 18th June 2024.

Bradfield College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening as part of their application.

This includes submitting an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Certificate prior to employment, registration of the DBS Update Service and checks with past employers.

About Bradfield College

Founded in 1850 by Thomas Stevens, and set in the village of Bradfield amidst unspoilt Berkshire countryside, Bradfield College enjoys a well-established reputation for being one of the country’s leading co-educational, independent schools through its provision of academic excellence and a well-rounded education.

The College welcomes pupils from Britain and overseas; the pupil body numbers approximately 850 pupils, comprising 350 girls and 500 boys from 13 to 18 years of age.

Boys and girls enter Bradfield at 13+ and many more join the College’s popular and vibrant Sixth Form, where they can choose to study either the IB or A Levels. Faulkner’s, a state-of-the-art boarding house, is specially designed to help all girls and boys make a happy and successful transition from prep school (we recruit from more than 70) to senior school; pupils then move into one of 11 senior houses.

We offer an unrivalled sports and activities programme for all our pupils which ensures that every girl and boy has the opportunity to develop valuable skills outside the classroom, wherever their interests lie.
