(TMS + TLR3 of £1800)

 

We are looking to appoint a Head of KS5 English and English G&T coordinator from September 2024 who will assist the Head of English in the running of the department. The post is permanent and is remunerated with an allocated TLR3 of £1800. 

The post would be an excellent stepping-stone to enable staff to develop the skills and knowledge required to apply for a Head of English post in the future. It would allow the successful applicant to experience the challenges and opportunities of holding such a post, helping prepare for more senior roles in the future.

The role will include:

 

  • accountability for teaching and results at A Level within the English Department
  • the management of entries and NEAs for A Level English Literature and A Level English Language and Literature and liaison with the examination board
  • reporting on A Level results in and producing action plans for future progress
  •  running clinics and support experiences for students
  • managing the resourcing and dissemination of good practice at A Level, ensuring policies are followed
  • monitoring student issues; eg attendance, absence, appropriateness for the course
  • organising and running promotional and introductory events for our A Levels
  • extra-curricular experiences
  • monitoring the identification of G&T students within each year group (7-13) and evaluating their progress
  • disseminating good practice across the department for the challenge of G&T students
  • ensuring that the department schemes include challenge for G&T students
  • organising G&T experiences for students; e.g. trips, study days, visits
  • coordinating after school G&T sessions for Year 11


Bartholomew School is sited in the village of Eynsham 5 miles from Oxford (with easy transport links) and serves the surrounding rural area.

Bartholomew School is a mainstream, state-academy, co-educational, non-denominational, secondary school for children aged 11-18. It is situated in Eynsham in Oxfordshire and it has over 1280 pupils on its roll. It has been rated as an “Outstanding” school.

Bartholomew School converted to academy status in 2012 and is partnered with local schools. It feels it has greatly benefited from this change of status.

Bartholomew School is recognised as being in the top 10 per cent of all non-selective schools nationally in providing the most able students. A quarter of its pupils achieve 5+ A*/A grades.

The original school was founded in 1704 by a gentleman called John Bartholomew.
