This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative leader with strong curriculum understanding to join us as Head of Technology at Helena Romanes School. We would welcome applications from experienced leaders as well as ambitious technology teachers who are ready to take the next step in their leadership journey.

Helena Romanes is an age 4-18, all-through school situated in the historic town of Great Dunmow. In October 2023 the school was graded as ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted. In 2026, the school will be relocating to a state-of-the-art new building, constructed by the DfE, in Great Dunmow.

You will be leading a successful technology team with a track record of excellent outcomes with an experienced and dynamic staff team. As Head of Faculty, you will be expected to lead the overall technology curriculum and provide strategic leadership to your team, with a clear focus on continuing to drive improvements in teaching, curriculum design, assessment and progress across the Faculty.

Reporting to a member of the senior leadership team, you will have a varied, dynamic and strategic role. It will be excellent preparation for candidates keen to enter senior leadership positions in the future. The successful candidate will benefit from the support of an experienced, innovative and ambitious senior leadership team. You will also work closely with other Heads of Technology and curriculum leaders in the Saffron Academy Trust.

We would love to hear from you if you are an inspirational, dynamic and creative individual who makes learning fun and challenging, and who is looking to join a supportive and enthusiastic team in beautiful rural surroundings.

This is an exciting time to join the school:

●       In September 2021, the school was designated as an all-through school for pupils aged 4-18 years and we are now only one of two all-through schools in Essex. We believe this puts us in a position to offer a unique educational experience to both students and staff who work at the school.

●       We are working with the Department of Education to build a new, state-of-the-art school building on Stortford Road, Great Dunmow, which is set to open to the primary phase in 2025 and the secondary and sixth form phase in 2026.

●       We are a member of the successful Saffron Academy Trust, a highly effective local trust led by Caroline Derbyshire, CEO. As members of the trust, we receive a comprehensive package of school improvement and there is regular networking and support between the trust’s primary and secondary schools.

We are committed to promoting equality of opportunity, celebrating diversity, safeguarding and the

welfare of children and young people.

We are situated in the beautiful North Essex countryside. It has good communications to London and the South East, and it is approximately 7 miles from Stansted Airport.

Please refer to the job description and person specification for further information and apply by application form which can be found on our school website www.helena-romanes.essex.sch.uk and send to Elle Ball (HR) eball@hrs.education

The Governing Body is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. It expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.

The school reserves the right to interview candidates before the published closing date.

We are a mixed 4 – 18 Academy with over 1200 pupils on roll. The school is situated in beautiful countryside, occupying approximately 35 acres just to the north of Great Dunmow.

The school was established in 1958 and is named in honour of the first Chair of Governors.

At Helena Romanes, we are ambitious for our pupils and we offer them a rich and varied curriculum. Our pupils develop the skills, knowledge and understanding that enables them to move successfully into higher education, apprenticeships, training or employment.

While academic achievement is of crucial importance, we also ensure that we focus effectively on developing our pupils’ personal, social and creative skills. Our aim is that pupils leave Helena Romanes as successful, confident and considerate young adults.

We are very proud of our pupils. They are superb ambassadors for our school when they represent us locally, nationally and internationally, participating in our many and varied extra-curricular activities.

At Helena Romanes, we have a large team of well-qualified, dedicated staff who focus on supporting pupils’ progress and well-being. We work closely with parents, carers and the wider community to ensure we provide a well-coordinated approach to our pupils’ learning and development.
