Thank you for your interest in the post of HR Advisor at Haberdashers’ Hatcham College. ​

​About the role

The role of HR Advisor is hugely important within the Trust and the College. You will help bring to life our People Strategy by playing an instrumental role in providing generalist HR support to the College, and will be involved in employee relations queries, including, supporting the College with first and second tier disciplinary, capability and grievance procedures. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of recruitment, onboarding, pre-employment checks, payroll administration, as well as maintaining and updating the College’s Single Central Record and HR systems. 

Job purpose   ​

  •  Act as the first point of contact for employee relations and HR queries. ​
  • Organise and support meetings, events and functions to support delivery of Trust’s priorities.  ​
  • Contribute to the delivery of the team’s agreed objectives including participating in relevant projects that support the delivery of the Trust’s development plans.  ​
  • Role model the Trust’s values and work in accordance with health and safety, equal opportunities and environmental policies. ​
  • Manage the full recruitment cycle including working with managers to define job needs, preparing job descriptions, and managing the resourcing process. ​
  • Reviewing and updating job descriptions, and advising managers on recruitment and selection strategies. ​
  • Assisting with and developing recruitment campaigns including preparing recruitment packs and posting recruitment adverts, including co-ordinating the appointment process for successful applicants. ​
  • Inputting, creating and maintaining employee data on all relevant electronic and hard copy systems. ​
  • Responsible for the onboarding process for new employees, ensuring all pre-employment checks have been carried out, including eligibility to work, DBS, overseas police checks, health checks etc. Ensuring all required documents have been checks and updated on the HR system accordingly.  ​
  • Managing staff relationships, responding to any queries or problems that they have and managing their expectations. ​


Role Specific Accountabilities:  

  •  Maintain professional and up to date knowledge of changes to equality, diversity and inclusion,   employment legislation, policies and professional best practice.  ​
  • Work with the HRBP on the Trust strategies to ensure the delivery of the school development plans including co-ordination, development and delivery against the Trust’s EDI, Well-being, and People action plans. Monitor activities against the action plans and ensure accurate reporting on progress and risks. ​
  • Work with internal communications colleagues to feed into the internal communications plan as well as deliver and support delivery of relevant events to all Trust staff​
  • Contribute to the delivery of HR services to Trust departments in order to meet organisational need, building effective working relationships with colleagues and promoting the image of the HR service as proactive and customer-focused.   ​
  • To manage employee relations casework, providing professional and timely advice, referring complex or high-risk issues as appropriate, and working with managers to find acceptable solutions to people management issues. ​
  • Provide HR advice to managers and staff in the Trust on the application of HR policies and procedures.  ​
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders to determine areas for improvement and optimisation, deconstructing issues and developing a solution-focused approach.  ​
  • Assisting the HRBP and the Director of People with HR projects which may include data gathering and analysis, preparing communication information, handling all administration etc. ​
  • Carry out other duties appropriate to the grading of the post as may be directed by the Director of People or nominated representative. 
  • Deliver first line generalist HR advice, providing up to date and informed HR guidance and support on HR policies, processes and systems, ​
  • Managing first line HR processes including capability, sickness, grievance and disciplinary cases, e.g. advising investigating officer. ​
  • Support the Senior Management Team with organising induction for new joiners, including Inset days, ensuring systems and CPD records are maintained. ​
  • Administer the payroll administration ensuring the compiled monthly payroll reports are accurate and submitted to time. Provide associated payroll paperwork to the payroll team in line with the agreed payroll cut off dates. ​
