Job Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and passionate IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) Music Teacher to join our innovative educational team. This role presents an exciting opportunity to inspire young learners and cultivate their musical talents and appreciation within the framework of the IB PYP. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering engaging and enriching music education experiences that promote creativity, cultural understanding, and holistic development. For a full-time position this role might include other tasks in addition to teaching music (lunch, recess and aftercare supervision, substituting for teachers, etc.).


Key Responsibilities:

1. Curriculum Delivery:

  • Design and deliver developmentally appropriate music lessons that align with the IB PYP framework and promote students' musical skills, knowledge, and understanding.
  • Integrate inquiry-based learning approaches and hands-on activities to engage students in active exploration of music concepts and genres.


2. Instrumental Instruction:

  • Provide instruction on a variety of musical instruments, adapting teaching methods to meet the diverse needs and interests of students.
  • Foster students' instrumental technique, ensemble playing skills, and musical expression through individual and group instruction.


3. Music Appreciation and Cultural Understanding:

  • Expose students to a wide range of musical traditions, styles, and cultures, fostering appreciation for diversity and promoting cross-cultural understanding through music.
  • Encourage students to explore connections between music and other areas of inquiry within the PYP transdisciplinary framework.


4. Performance Opportunities:

  • Organize and facilitate musical performances, assemblies, and showcases to provide students with opportunities to showcase their musical talents and collaborate with peers.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive performance environment that celebrates students' achievements and encourages risk-taking and self-expression.


5. Collaboration and Integration:

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and other specialists to integrate music into interdisciplinary units of inquiry and enhance connections between music and other subject areas.
  • Support the development of students' language, math, and social skills through music-related activities and projects.


Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field.
  • Teaching certification and/or qualifications.
  • Experience teaching music to young children, preferably within an IB or inquiry-based learning environment.
  • Proficiency in playing and teaching a variety of musical instruments.

  • Strong musicianship and pedagogical skills, with a passion for fostering students' musical growth and creativity.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate young learners through dynamic and interactive instruction.
  • Creativity and adaptability to develop age-appropriate music lessons and activities that cater to the diverse needs and interests of students.
  • Commitment to the principles and philosophy of the International Baccalaureate, with a focus on holistic development, inquiry-based learning, and global citizenship through music education.
