HEREWARD HOUSE SCHOOL

BELSIZE PARK – NW3

BOYS’ PREP SCHOOL (167 PUPILS)

Required for September 2024. Hereward House is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic individual with an engaging and caring manner to be placed with one of our Junior School Form Groups as a KS1 teaching assistant.

The successful candidate will be dynamic and caring and have the ability to effectively support and inspire the pupils.

It is crucial that the candidate can contribute towards our warm, welcoming and safe atmosphere in which every child can thrive and feel comfortable.

We are academically ambitious for the boys. Despite the school’s mixed ability intake, the majority of boys gain entry to top London day schools and leading boarding schools.

For us, the most important outcome is for all boys to be kind, considerate, and confident whilst looking out for every member of the school community.

We offer a stimulating work environment where you will work within a friendly, close-knit team.

Hereward House is a thriving IAPS school in Belsize Park with highly motivated and talented pupils. At Hereward House we believe passionately in the value of a Prep School education for boys between the ages of 4-13. In partnership with our immensely supportive families, we are helping the boys to develop at a crucial, formative stage of their lives. The years spent at Hereward House will be the time when the boys will cultivate their values and the personal attention they receive aims to produce well-rounded, kind, academically curious boys. Together with solid intellectual foundations, Hereward House Boys leave with a strong sense of empathy, humility, and compassion.

Please view the school website, www.herewardhouse.co.uk, for more information about the school and our policies.

To apply, please fill out the application form below and return it either by email to Office@herewardhouse.co.uk or in writing to Mr Evans, Hereward House School, 14 Strathray Gardens, London, NW3 4NY.

Hereward House School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service. Appointments are also subject to the receipt of references which the School considers satisfactory.

The school is committed to equality of opportunity for all staff and applications from individuals are encouraged regardless of age, race, sex, disability, pregnancy, marital status, sexual orientation, gender reassignment and religious background.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are ‘spent’ unless they are ‘protected’ under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

About Hereward House School

Hereward House, a preparatory school for boys aged 4-13, was founded in 1951 and is accredited by the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools.

We aim to provide a warm, welcoming and safe atmosphere in which every child can thrive and feel comfortable. Whilst embracing the highest academic aspirations for our boys, we believe that a school should not be an exam factory. We strive to create a stimulating, purposeful, safe, and happy community, where every child feels valued and secure. We aim to be a school where boys will be encouraged and assisted to develop academically, morally, emotionally, culturally and physically. It is our belief each one should enjoy his school days and reflect upon them with pride, pleasure and affection. We are preparing boys not just for senior school, but for life.

The school seeks to provide a lively, stimulating and intellectually demanding education in a friendly and well disciplined environment. Modern approaches are employed alongside those traditional methods that have proved their worth.

The Headmaster, Pascal Evans, leads a highly qualified and dedicated team. The curriculum is varied and interesting, and almost every boy learns an instrument. Games, especially team sports, are important.  Supported by Leonie Sampson, the Chair of Governors, who has been a head for over 30 years. She can be contacted via the school number throughout the year.

By providing a happy and challenging environment, the school aims to meet the needs of the individual child, enabling him to reach the highest standards of personal achievement in both academic and non-academic fields.

Hereward House provides the firm foundation boys need in order to achieve fine results at Common Entrance and scholarship and the skills to succeed in their Senior Schools and in life.
