Job overview

We are looking for a KS5 Science Coordinator to join our outstanding school, which has a specialism in science, as we grow into our seventh year.  This role is perfect for an excellent teacher with at least two years’ experience of delivering successful results at A-level, wishing to further their career.

William Perkin Church of England High School opened as a Free School in September 2013 with its first intake of Year 7 students, and now has six year groups (7 - 12) totalling almost 1,160 students.  The school is rated ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted (June 2015) and SIAMS (October 2016) and is oversubscribed on first choice applicants.

Over the summer we received our first set of GCSE results which were outstanding both at a whole school and departmental level.  Progress indicators for the whole school place the school in the top 10 in the country.  At departmental level science students achieved over 1.5 grades higher than expected nationally.  Over half of our triple science students achieved a grade 8 or better.

Our Sixth Form opened in September 2018 and by September 2019 we will have 300 students on roll.  The majority of our students study at least one STEM subject and we are one of the leading STEM providers in the borough. The department has created a dynamic and exciting KS5 curriculum, pushing students both academically and also in terms of wider learning.  We take great pride in the extracurricular offer for our sixth form students - all students take part in the school’s CASE (Creativity, Action, Service and Employability) programme which ensures pupils are able to further develop a love of the subject whilst also being given quality information and guidance.  Part of this role is to coordinate the Science offer within the CASE programme which includes organising the departmental lecture series.

We firmly believe that any teacher who visits the school will see the passion for Science shared by both students and staff alike - to arrange a visit, please email the Head of Science, Tim Miall, at tmiall@williamperkin.org.uk

The new post-holder will be joining us at a time of growth and the organisation therefore offers good promotion prospects for motivated and energetic teachers who support the ethos of our schools.

For more information about the school please visit the Twyford Trust and William Perkin websites.  For more information about the role please see the Job Description on the Twyford Trust website at:  http://www.twyfordacademies.org.uk/recruitment/vacancies

  • An understanding of the processes and techniques required to assess, record and report students’ learning effectively
  • Ability to be reflective and driven towards self-improvement
