Learning Support Assistants at The Moat School are assigned to work with a group of 10 (or fewer) pupils who are members of a Form Group. LSAs work with both pastoral and academic staff to enhance and enrich the learning experience of the pupils. The context for this work is varied, encompassing both the classroom and educational experiences beyond the classroom. All LSAs are encouraged and enabled to take part in additional training to become qualified in supporting the needs of learners with SpLDs. Many are graduates looking to enter the teaching profession on leaving The Moat.
The main duties of the Learning Support Assistant are as follows, however the list is subject to regular review:
Working with Pupils
To assist pupils access to curriculum materials
To read, scribe and adapt work to enable access
To support instructions and enhance pupils understanding in the classroom setting
To promote good behaviour
To participate in target setting and monitoring
To creatively support the established learning objectives
To support access arrangements in examinations
To ensure good practice at all times in relation to safeguarding pupils
To attend all morning assemblies
Working with Teachers
To engage in creating materials
To assist in the administration and delivery of lessons
To take a role in pastoral support network
To attend and participate in the registration and administration of your form
Reporting and Recording
To assist in the recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of pupils
To keep accurate and up to date records
To communicate and consult with the parents of pupils
Working with Therapeutic Staff
To liaise with our team of therapeutic staff
To assist in the delivery of specific programmes for pupils
To monitor and provide feedback on strategies
Extra-Curricular Involvement
To become involved in the life of the school
To take on a supportive role in extra-curricular activities including both sporting, Duke of Edinburgh, Creative and Performing Arts
To attend promotional and commemorative events out of usual school hours
Environment and Resources
To assist in the creation and maintenance of high quality displays
To assist in maintaining the resources in the learning environment
To promote good ICT skills and support the full use of our extensive network
To participate in playground, lunch and break supervision duties
Special Interests
To share and develop areas of special interest within the school; curricular, therapeutic or otherwise
- Working hours
Normal working hours are 8.00 am to 4.30pm. The School may also require you to work at such other times as necessary for the performance of your duties. As a member of the full time staff you will receive no extra remuneration for work outside your normal hours.
- Salary and Benefits
You are entitled to take as leave all School holidays as defined as the Teacher’s School Holidays which may vary very slightly from the Pupil’s School Holidays to allow for in-service training days. The School recognises all public holidays. These holidays are paid leave.
- Salary range
The School has its own salary scale for all types of Staff. For this post the starting salary will be in the range £17,016 before tax, paid in monthly arrears. There are also opportunities for further salary increments of £1000- £1,500 for extra responsibilities (at this time the Food Technician)
The School offers a Stakeholder Pension Scheme which is available for LSAs to join if they wish. The employer does not make contributions to this Scheme on their behalf.

Burlington House School was established in 1998 as a pioneering school to allow children with Dyslexia the opportunity to access an academic education. Focussing on pupil personal development Burlington House School is at the forefront of bespoke education for not only SpLD but also any child who struggles in a traditional classroom.
