Why Orsett Heath Academy and William Edwards School?

Orsett Heath is a relatively new thriving mixed 11-16 comprehensive school. As a new school, we opened our doors to welcome our first pupils in 2020. Since then, the school has proved popular with parents and pupils and we are oversubscribed in all three current year groups. We have created a successful school that pupils and staff are incredibly proud of.

In the summer of 2024, we move into our new £37m school building adjacent to our current purpose-built accommodation at Thurrock Rugby Club. When full, the new building will have 1200 pupils and be amongst the largest in Thurrock. We are looking for highly motivated, talented and ambitious staff who share our inclusive ethos and who want to help us grow over the coming years.

William Edwards is a large, successful, harmonious and thriving mixed 11-16 comprehensive school. Pupil outcomes across the school are historically strong. However, attending William Edwards is about so much more than just GCSE outcomes. We firmly believe that school days should be the best days of your life and that schools have a moral purpose to extend the life experiences of their pupils. That is why we boast the largest Duke of Edinburgh cohort of any school in the East of England and we are also one of only two schools in the East of England to hold the Arts Mark Platinum Award. Character education and providing a wealth of different experiences to our pupils are important to us.

SWECET is a growing, cross phase Multi Academy Trust, established in 2015 to serve the needs of its communities.  SWECET currently has three ‘Good’ primary schools, one ‘Outstanding’ secondary and one ‘RI’ Secondary that joined the Trust in April 2017.   The Trust believes that schools should be unique and individual institutions with distinct character and that through effective partnership we can challenge, support and learn from each other in order to raise standards and provide exceptional opportunities for all our young people.   It is an exciting time to be joining SWECET with all schools continually striving to be better. Considered, purposeful growth plans are in place that will be to the benefit of all stakeholders. We were invited by the DfE as an approved sponsor to submit applications to open a new Primary Free School in Havering and Secondary Free School in Thurrock. These are both due to open in 2020.
