Job overview

You can shape the engineering leaders of the future as a Mathematics Teacher here at The JCB Academy. We’re looking for an educator who can make mathematical principles accessible and lay a solid foundation of understanding for emerging engineering minds. Ready to drive great results as you inspire a new generation of business leaders and engineering experts? Join an organisation steeped in engineering success.

About The JCB Academy

The JCB Academy is a school specialising in engineering and business. We teach learners from Y9 to Sixth Form and provide Intermediate (L2) and Advanced (L3) apprenticeship programmes as well as Business and Engineering T-Levels which provide additional choices post-GCSE. Our approach pairs classroom learning with practical application, and we have an impressive range of world-class industry partners who help with that. JCB, of course, but also Harper Adams University, Rolls-Royce and Toyota Motor Manufacturing to name just a few. Names that can turn heads with learners and lock in their learning engagement.

Situated close to Uttoxeter, you’ll have a picturesque market town on your doorstep and easy access to many independent shops, cafes and bars. Once you’ve explored that, there are plenty of characterful villages and cultural attractions to immerse yourself in as well as great travel links to major cities and The Peaks. It’s a beautiful place to call home and there’s an abundance of great-value-for-money housing available.

We offer a benefits package which includes an Employee Assistance Programme (including financial guidance, legal enquiries, support for issues at home and at work), access to JCB’s dental scheme (monthly fee), free access to the academy’s gym, free on-site parking and Cyclescheme.

About you

Not a qualified teacher? No problem. You’ll need a degree to back up your subject area expertise, but what’s most important is being able to inspire learners with your passion for mathematics. We’ll train you on the rest. Empathic, supportive and an outstanding communicator, you’ll be able to break down complex ideas into digestible chunks that make your lessons a highlight of the timetable for learners.

The JCB Academy is defined by a can-do culture and, as a teacher with us, you’ll drive it. Your positivity, subject area authority and energy will make you a role model for learners - it’s something you’ll live up to in every aspect of school life, including extracurricular activities. You’ll foster inclusivity that will enable everyone to reach their potential at The JCB Academy. Your own included!

Please contact the HR Department by email to recruitment@jcbacademy.com or on 01889 506100 if you would like any additional information or to arrange an informal visit.

The JCB Academy was established in September 2010, the first of a brand new kind of school in the UK, with a focus on delivering high-quality engineering and business education.

Since opening we have been consistently successful - our Ofsted inspection in September 2018 recognised us as a “Good” school with “outstanding” features, including progress in mathematics, engineering and vocational courses and the dedication to keeping learners safe and secure.

Learner numbers are growing and we have been oversubscribed every year. Currently we cater for approximately 700 full time learners aged 13-19 as well as approximately 300 learners aged 16+ following apprenticeships.

The academy is located in Rocester, Staffordshire in an adapted and renovated mill,  built by the famous industrial entrepreneur and engineer, Richard Arkwright, in the late 18th century.

Values and vision

The JCB Academy aims to change lives by developing the engineer and business leaders of the future.  We do this by:

  • Working closely with our world-leading industrial partners.
  • Having dedicated staff who inspire our learners.
  • Ensuring every learner has a meaningful destination.

We work tirelessly to ensure that those entrusted into our care have every chance to achieve success. It is important that learners achieve well academically to ensure that they can compete in the marketplace for higher education places and employment. It is also important that we work to develop those core skills essential for success, not just in the world of work but also in life. The JCB Academy looks to ensure that all learning enables young people to develop:

  • Can do/positive attitudes.
  • The desire to achieve through actions.
  • Creative and enterprising behaviours.
  • A willingness to learn in the pursuit of technical and academic excellence.
  • Team work and leadership capability.

We have high expectations of each and every learner who will join us. Great store is placed upon self-discipline, good behaviour, uniform, teamwork and co-operation. These traditional values are at the heart of all we undertake at The JCB Academy.

The JCB Academy is a demanding and stimulating place to work. One where you will be supported to achieve your very best in a fantastic working environment.

Ofsted

“Students make outstanding progress in mathematics, engineering and most vocational courses. Many students enter apprenticeships, higher education courses and careers which reflect the characteristics of the University Technical College and its high reputation in the engineering and business industries and professions. Leadership, including governance, is good and improving. As a result, all groups of students are making sustained progress and most are achieving well.”
