Job overview

Part-Time Teacher for PPA Cover

(MPR / UPR + SEN 1 Allowance) 0.6FTE / 3 days per week

This is an exciting opportunity to join George Hastwell School as we move on to the next phase of our journey. We are looking for teacher who understands our community and can make learning exciting.

George Hastwell School is a 3 to 19 academy special school located on Walney Island in Barrow-in-Furness, a town with a great future ahead. Home of the United Kingdom’s submarine industry, Barrow is in the midst of a renaissance with significant government investment, a rapidly expanding economy and a new campus of the University of Cumbria under development. A thriving town surrounded by beautiful beaches and the Lake District fells makes Barrow a unique location to take your next career step.

We support and develop young people with severe and profound learning difficulties, and associated needs such as autism, communication difficulties and complex health needs.   We take pride in working together to support pupils holistically, enabling them to develop socially, physically, emotionally and academically in order to succeed in life as independently as possible. We truly embody our school values of respect, fairness, kindness, pride, responsibility and resilience.

We are seeking a creative, caring and forward-thinking teacher, determined to achieve the best possible outcomes for our pupils; who will reward them with enthusiasm, encouragement, humour, time and attention.

Being a PPA cover post, this role offers the opportunity to work with a wide range of pupils across all age groups. The successful candidate will also have responsibility for leading on a whole school area linked to their particular strengths and experience.

You must be well organised and have a consistent approach, with the ability to work well with others and lead a team of classroom staff.

Experience of working in a special school setting is desirable but not essential.

Just like our stunning location, our fantastic school has so much to offer for teaching professionals looking for a new challenge.

Please apply by completing a Fells Trust Teaching Staff application form available via our website: www.georgehastwell.org.uk and emailing to applications@thefellstrust.org

If you have any queries, please contact applications@thefellstrust.org

Closing date for applications: By Monday 6th May 2024

Interviews will be held: TBC

Start date: 1 September 2024

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all of its employees to share this commitment. A DBS enhanced disclosure will be required for this post.
