The Exciting Role 

A new and exciting opportunity has become available for a 0.5 Politics Lecturer.

You will be part of a highly successful team of dedicated A Level staff within out humanities section and responsible for delivering Politics to our A Level students at Nelson and Colne College.

In particular, the A Level programme aims to:

  • Provide a highly ambitious curriculum and academic programme of study which inspires students to aim high and achieve the extraordinary.
  • To ensure the provision of a high-quality academic 6th form, offering a broad range of relevant A Level subjects.
  • To support students to progress onto higher education and then onto exciting and ambitious careers.
  • To ensure a strong focus on adding value, realising aspirations and equipping students with the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to progress onto the best universities.
  • To provide students with the widest range of experiences possible, building cultural capital; inspiring and enabling them to make a lasting and positive contribution to the wider society.

The successful candidate will be primarily based at Nelson but may be required to travel across sites.

This post could suit an experienced practitioner looking for their next challenge, a newly qualified teacher looking to make their mark within an Outstanding organisation, or a talented aspiring trainee teacher looking for support with their teaching qualification.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Plan, deliver and assess A Level politics.
  • Support learners in their academic journey and also as a pastoral tutor.
  • To develop the wider knowledge, skills and behaviours for their next steps/
  • To widen their cultural capital via extra curricular opportunities such as debating, visiting MPs or trips.

What We Are Looking For:

  • An enthusiastic and knowledgeable A Level politics lecturer who can deliver outstanding teaching, learning and support to learners.
  • A degree in a relevant subject area or appropriate professional qualification
  • A recognised teaching qualification or a willingness to achieve this within three years of appointment
  • A higher degree or advanced qualification (desirable)
  • Successful teaching experience in a relevant subject area 
  • Knowledge of and proven ability to deliver the curriculum successfully 
  • Demonstrate a student-centred approach to teaching and learning

About Nelson and Colne College

Nelson and Colne College, located in the town of Nelson, Lancashire, offers further education to 1,600 full-time students and 3,500 part-time adults. The college was founded during the reorganisation of education in Pendle in the early 1970s and created by the merger of several local sixth forms. 

Recent investments have included a £2m engineering facility, an all-weather sports pitch and gym, fully equipped science laboratories, and student study and social spaces. In January 2017, Nelson and Colne College launched a university centre to offer a range of higher education programmes in East Lancashire and beyond.
