Job overview

We are looking to appoint an outstanding Second in charge of Religious Education. The successful candidate will be a dynamic and energetic practitioner with high expectations, be passionate about their subject and able to inspire and motivate students. They must be committed to the highest standards of teaching and learning, through lesson planning and careful assessment. This post is suitable for an experienced teacher who is able to support the Head of Faculty in the day to day running of the department and deliver outstanding lessons across the key stages.

RE is taught in years 7 to 11 and all students sit GCSE RE in year 11. Students’ learning is enriched by visits, lectures and seminars outside of school as well as an annual Faith in Focus Season. We are seeking someone who can contribute to this extra-curricular learning and success beyond the classroom in RE and in the wider life of the school.

Interested candidates are encouraged to visit the school before making an application.

Working at Greig City Academy

The successful candidate will be joining a tight-knit community; the turnover is consistently low and the well-being of our staff is important to us. We aim to support staff to achieve a sensible work-life balance.

Staff at the Academy collaborate and support each other by sharing good practice and taking a team approach with a focus on collective responsibility. Paul Sutton, our Principal, encourages teachers to have an impact beyond their subject and he is always available and happy to discuss ideas with you as to how this can be achieved. We have an impressive range of extra-curricular activities and most of our staff are involved in running at least one. Ours is a caring and well-ordered environment in which all students can enjoy learning, develop enquiring minds, and acquire the skills and knowledge they need for a changing world. Every day we see the results of our efforts in students who work responsibly and with consideration for others – they are the best ambassadors for the school.

The personal development of all our staff is highly valued at GCA and we offer the opportunity to apply for our Learning Award of up to £2,400 per year for your continued professional development or other skills and talents. This is in addition to the school’s ongoing CPD programme. Other benefits staff can opt into include a cycle to work scheme and an interest-free annual season ticket loan.

Why not pay us a visit and find out more? Contact Viv Oxley by email at voxley@greigcityacademy.co.uk or by calling 020 8609 0100, we will try to find a time that works best for you.

We are committed to the principle of equal opportunities; we welcome all applicants and value the diversity they bring.

Greig City Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we have safer recruitment procedures in place for the selection of staff. Successful applicants will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check and additional pre-employment checks in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education statutory guidance.

NOTE: It is an offence to apply for a role if the person is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. (Legislation.gov.uk – section 7(1)(a) of the SVGA 2006)

In line with KCSIE updates, as part of our due diligence checks on shortlisted candidates, references will be requested before interview and an online search will be conducted.

Please complete an application form and monitoring form using the ‘Quick Apply’ button.

The closing date for receiving completed application forms is 5pm on Monday 13 May 2024.

We reserve the right to close or extend the deadline for this position depending on application numbers, therefore we would urge candidates to submit an application at their earliest opportunity.
