Job overview

School:    Greenland Community Primary School      Salary:                Main Pay Spine 1-6

Job Role:   SEN Class Teacher                                      Contract Type: Full time, permanent

Required for September 2024, Greenland Community Primary School are seeking to appoint an excellent, enthusiastic, creative and motivated classroom practitioner to teach in one of our newly built Enhanced Learning Provision (ELP) classrooms. The ELP is a modern, two-classroom base with adjoining sensory room dedicated to providing a calm, nurturing environment where children with a range of SEN needs can remain in mainstream education in their local school community. The ELP is situated within the grounds of Greenland Community Primary School overlooking our Forest School and surrounded by woodland. There are 12 children in each classroom and an enhanced provision ensures that children receive access to sensory and targeted interventions, small bursts of learning, regular movement breaks, higher levels of visual and adult support and prompts to encourage more resilient, independent learners. Curriculum is taught by stage for core subjects and an age-related, adapted spiral curriculum for foundation subjects, which is personalised for each learner in line with their EHCP or SEN needs.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, adaptive teacher, who has a passion for supporting children with additional needs. All of our teachers are well supported to develop into highly skilled practitioners and will receive a dedicated ELP training package including ASC (Autism Spectrum Condition), PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance), Speech and Language strategies and nurture, etc. We strongly recommend interested candidates to contact the school for a discussion around this exciting position and how the future of this important area of our school could develop.

This inclusive, mainstream SEND provision, is dedicated to delivering outstanding inclusive practice through a culture of co-production, experiential learning, and growth, where carers and professionals work together to support the holistic development of the child. Therefore, we are seeking to appoint one committed and passionate teacher to lead one of our classrooms within Greenland Community Primary School ELP. This teaching position will be to work within one of our two purpose-built classrooms. You will be contributing to and participating in the team working ethos of the provision whilst maintaining its core values by:

•       Effectively leading and supporting a TA under the guidance and support of the ELP Lead and the Headteacher.

•       Planning and delivering the teaching programme for all pupils within the class in relation to the National Curriculum, providing clear structures for learning activities and for sequences which both motivate and challenge.

•       Setting clear academic targets and working closely with other professionals as they set therapeutic targets.

•       Setting appropriate and demanding expectations of the pupils in your care.

•       Adhering to the ELP’s teaching and learning policy and associated requirements.

•       Making effective use of a variety of SEND assessment information on pupils’ progress.

•       Maintaining good order and discipline in accordance with the school’s procedures and individual pupil needs (support will be given throughout from the ELP Lead)

•       Contributing to the whole school’s planning activities and operating at all times within the stated policies and practices.

There will be the opportunity to work closely with teaching staff within the mainstream classrooms across school as you support children to integrate into mainstream classroom lessons with peers where able or appropriate.

We are looking for people who have Qualified Teacher Status as well as a degree or relevant qualification and experience. The successful candidate must have a desire to support pupils with SEND and ideally, have experience of working directly with children with high levels of need. The candidate must be willing to work hard to develop their understanding of SEND support strategies (e.g. TEACCH, Makaton, Pecs, Colourful Semantics etc.) as well as knowledge of the current national frameworks and developments in SEND.

It is essential that the successful candidate has a clear desire and passion to work with children with SEND.

Greenland Community Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced criminal record check via the DBS. In line with the guidance in Keeping Children Safe in Education, the Trust will carry out an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted candidates.

Applications are invited from prospective candidates who are able to demonstrate that they are able to meet the essential criteria set out in the person specification and who have the vision, values and tenacity to join an outstanding team and help continue the journey towards excellence.
