Following the appointment of Mr Ben Charles as Principal of the King’s School, Rochester, an outstanding individual is sought to be Senior Deputy Head at this leading co-educational school.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record in leadership and management, and in this wide-ranging role will make a significant contribution to the development of school strategy and to ensuring the smooth operation of the school.  Further areas of responsibility will be shaped in response to the skills, interests and experience of the successful candidate. 

PGS has an excellent record in the development of senior leaders. In the last ten years, three Senior Deputy Heads at the school have gone on to secure a headship. It is likely that the successful candidate will, after a suitable period, wish to follow in this tradition.

Founded in 1732, The Portsmouth Grammar School (PGS) is a co-educational independent day school for pupils aged 2½ - 18 years, situated in the heart of Portsmouth, Hampshire.  This thriving school is just a stone’s throw from the Solent and comprises of a Pre-School, Junior School, Senior School and Sixth Form, providing the very best education to 1,348 pupils.

ISI Report 2022

During an ISI Inspection in late 2022 both the achievement of the pupils, including their academic development and the personal development of the pupils were found to be excellent - the highest possible classification. The Inspection also looked at the School’s compliance with the regulatory standards and requirements. PGS met all the standards required.
