Job overview

Are you looking for change and a new challenge? Would you like to use your excellent skills to support staff and their pupils with complex needs who find learning difficult and need passion, creativity and innovation to help them progress?  We can offer you all this and much more at Hatton Special School.

Hatton is a large primary special school in the London Borough of Redbridge (outer London). Our pupils are aged 3-11 with a range of complex needs, including autism, social communication difficulties, Downs Syndrome and other learning difficulties. The School was graded as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in November 2018. Our pupils are amazing and work very hard to achieve small and big steps of progress over time. They are supported by a dedicated staff team, and we stand by our ethos of “Learning, Growing & Achieving Together”; we value teamwork and support one another in developing. Although our staff are amazing and have developed fantastic practices in working with our pupils, we do not sit back. We continually strive to develop the learning opportunities we provide for our pupils.

Currently, we are seeking to recruit two Specialist Complex Needs and Behaviour Support Assistants. As a Specialist Complex Needs and Behaviour Support Assistant, you would be a member of the Training and Support Team here at Hatton School. In this role, you would support staff, children around the school, and parents with advice on specialist strategies and behaviour support. The start dates would be June 2024 and September 2024.

Applications are invited from enthusiastic, passionate practitioners who are genuinely interested in supporting pupils with special educational needs to achieve the very best outcomes. The position will require the supporting of pupils across a broad spectrum of SEN, including pupils with ASD and challenging behaviour, their families and staff around the school. Specific experience of working with primary aged pupils with additional needs is essential.

Hatton staff have access to:

•            A carefully selected ‘Peer-buddy’ to support them when starting with us

•            A commitment to ongoing professional development

•            A well-resourced school

•            Supportive and enthusiastic colleagues and governors

•            Staff social events

•            Well-being support

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This includes the need to become familiar with school policies immediately upon appointment and to follow the school’s procedures in relation to safeguarding.

This post is considered to be a customer-facing position; as such it falls within scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers. The school therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the person's specification. These will be applied during the recruitment/selection and probationary stages. The school is committed to equality and diversity in employment practice and service delivery.

Offers of employment are subject to an enhanced DBS Certificate and other employment checks. References will be requested for those short-listed ONLY and before the interview.

Visits to the school are encouraged. Please phone 020 8551 4131 to arrange an appointment. For further information about the school, please visit the school website. www.hattonspecialschool.co.uk.
