BCAT is a small, but highly ambitious Academy Trust consisting of 3 secondary schools in Kent, Barton Court Grammar School, The Charles Dickens School and the new free school, Barton Manor School.

Barton Court Grammar School (BCGS) is a state, selective, co-educational school with a strong reputation for its high academic standards and its caring and supportive ethos. The School is an accredited ‘Advanced Thinking School’ and is also the lead school of Barton Court Academy Trust (BCAT). The Charles Dickens School (CDS), a state, non-selective, co-educational secondary school joined BCAT on 1 March 2017 and Barton Manor School (BMS), our free school, which is also a non-selective co-educational secondary school opened in September 2022 to Year 7.

Our School

Barton Manor School, is a non-selective 11-18 school located in Canterbury, a 5 minute walk from Barton Court Grammar School. The School is in its second year of opening, with students in Y7 & Y8 only, and when full it will have a shared Sixth Form provision with Barton Court Grammar School providing a wide-range of vocational and academic courses. We have a vision and a determination to provide our community with an excellent school and we are making great strides towards this. To work here is to embrace the challenges of an economically-diverse community and understand the influence education has in addressing social immobility. We’re looking for brilliant people to join us on our exciting journey with opportunities for staff to work and teach at both Barton Court and Barton Manor.

The School has excellent facilities. All rooms are equipped with state-of-the art electronic interactive whiteboards. There are excellent specialist facilities for sport, hospitality, engineering, dance, drama, music and art. The Post

Required for 1 September 2024, the Trustees are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, experienced Specialist Teacher of Science to teach in our Free School, which opened to Year 7 only in September 2022 and in September 2024 will have students in Y7 – 9. The ability to teach up to GCSE is essential and the ability to teach to A Level desirable. The successful candidate will be a joining the team of highly experienced Science Teachers within the School who work collaboratively with staff at Barton Court Grammar School.

A 'Golden Hello' is payable as a lump sum in the first salary payment to the right candidate (criteria in the attached document).

The Lead of the Duke of Edinburgh role is also available to the right candidate at £2k pa allowance rising to £3k pa when fully trained.

The successful candidate should be able to deliver excellence in the classroom, providing innovative and inspirational teaching and learning. This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced candidate to work with colleagues to be part of a vibrant and outstanding department. This post is suitable for an experienced professional looking to further their expertise.

About Barton Manor School

Barton Manor School, is part of Barton Court Academy Trust (BCAT), which opened in September 2022 to 150 Year 7 students. The School is designed to be an 11-18 years, co-educational, non-selective school with 5 forms of entry and will grow each year with a new intake into Year 7. The school is planned as a centre of excellence for vocational subjects at KS4 and KS5 along with a joint Sixth Form provision with Barton Court Grammar School offering academic qualifications at Post-16.

The School's brand new amazing state-of-the art design was ready in February 2022. The Trust believes this outstanding design, combined with an innovative curriculum, excellent teaching and learning, and strong pastoral care and guidance, will provide outstanding education for the local community for generations to come.
