Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional teacher to use their abilities and knowledge to work alongside the Senior Leadership Team in the development of our new secondary school. We moved to our new permanent site in the Chesterwell development in Summer 2023. The post will combine the opportunity to be part of an exciting and dynamic new school with the benefits of being part of the Alpha Trust, a supportive and high-performing MAT.

The successful candidate will work with the Senior Leadership Team to establish a school in which all students thrive. We are committed to excellence in all that we do and are unashamedly ambitious for the future success of our students.

The Computing and Business Department at The Trinity School is central to our vision that “Trinitarians are the graduates, leaders and entrepreneurs of the future”. Our curriculum aligns with the Key Stage 3 National Curriculum for Computing. We also have a discrete lesson of Enterprise in Key Stage 3 to develop students’ life skills and understanding of the world of business. This opportunity comes at a time where we will be moving into our first year of Key Stage 4 teaching. This means the successful candidate will be able to shape curriculum design and development and will play an integral role in preparing our first cohort of students to undertake their GCSEs in 2026. The department has excellent facilities, with up-to-date equipment as part of our new building. The school is highly supportive and collaborative with a strong emphasis on modelling and retrieval practice seen throughout our lessons. The successful candidate will be a specialist in Computing or a Business Studies teacher with significant experience in Computing.

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding subject leader who will:

  • Be unashamedly ambitious for the future success of every child
  • Place the highest priority on outstanding teaching and learning
  • Model excellence and demonstrate a clear commitment to the school and its community
  • Have the vision and ability to help develop outstanding teaching and learning
  • Be a passionate advocate for our school community

If you are looking for an exciting, challenging and rewarding role within a supportive trust and have an unshakeable commitment to improving the lives of children, we look forward to receiving your application.

Appointment of the right candidate is also offered with priority admission for your child (subject to other criteria being met).

History & Ethos

A new school with an established heritage.

The Trinity School is in the exciting position of being able to draw on the strengths and traditions of our partner school, while developing our own ethos and culture.  The Trinity School opened in September 2021 with a Year 7 cohort in response to the pressure for school places caused by extensive building work in North Colchester. It opened on The Gilberd site in September 2021 with a cohort of 120 students before moving to its permanent site in September 2023.

Our students are smart, friendly, polite and hardworking. Relationships between teachers and students are excellent. Our students want to attend school and are eager to learn. Trinitarians are the graduates, leaders and entrepreneurs of tomorrow and we embed our values of Integrity, Tenacity and Ambition throughout the curriculum and the co-curriculum.

Trinity School is a member of the Alpha Trust, a partnership which provides opportunities to support one another and work collaboratively for the benefit of all of our students.

Location

The Trinity School is within the county of Essex which is in the Eastern region of UK. Trinity is approximately 3.2 miles from the Colchester city centre, 26.7 miles north from Chelmsford, 19.7 miles south of Ipswich and 20.9 miles east of Braintree. The school itself it located within a largely new-build community known as Chesterwell.

Situated on the River Colne, Colchester is 50 miles northeast of London and has excellent road, rail and public transport links. Commuting could not be easier with easy access to the A12, A14 and A120; and at less than 30 miles from London Stansted Airport and less than 20 miles from the passenger ferry port of Harwich, international travel is well catered for.

Colchester is steeped in history with archaeological evidence from throughout the ages. It lays claim to be regarded as Britain’s oldest recorded town and the capital of Roman Britain.

Colchester of the 21st Century is a thriving, modern town with first-class visitor attractions for all the family as well as fantastic places to eat, drink and shop.

For sporting enthusiasts, Colchester has multiple leisure facilities offering coaching for both children and adults. In addition, there are successful local football and rugby clubs; Colchester United FC and Colchester Rugby FC.

Facilities

Trinity was located on The Gilberd site for the first six terms before moving to our new, purpose-built school. We are now reciprocating The Gilberd’s hospitality by housing their Year 7 students while they rectify their RAAC issues. We currently have around 320 Gilberd students on site, alongside 420 Trinity students.

The school is arranged over three floors on a large site. Classrooms are arranged in curriculum areas. There are workrooms on each floor, as well as a staff room. There is ample parking, with charging points for electric vehicles. There is a Co-op store just across from the front entrance.

The school is investing heavily in ICT and is committed to developing the very best provision in order to enhance teaching and learning. Specialist teaching rooms are well equipped and all classrooms have a desktop computer for the teacher, connected to an interactive whiteboard. The school is committed to investing in resources that have a demonstrable effect on teaching and learning.

CPD

Our CPD is driven by the demands of the School Development Plan and our own self-evaluation. It is delivered through effective whole school, team and individual training. CPD is linked to specific needs and we share good practise and relevant research through our professional learning communities. All teaching staff are allocated to one of these communities who then meet regularly to discuss research articles, plan classroom developments informed by these and then critically support each other in implementing and evaluating these.

At the end of each academic year, staff contribute a short article to a learning journal which is then shared with all staff.

Opportunities to attend training provided by NEETSA address a number of areas, for example staff attending courses in Stepping into Leadership, Outstanding Teachers and Women in Leadership, as well as a full suite of NPQs

In addition, we provide support for ECTs, following the guidance from Essex County. A package of CPD is tailored each year to meet the needs of each ECT cohort. We also provide support for those in their second year of teaching.

All new staff will be appointed a mentor. We will have a very clear Induction Programme and staff have a 6 week, 12 week and 18 week review period, as per our Probation Policy.
