Teacher of Chemistry

We are seeking to appoint a talented, passionate and skilled Teacher of Chemistry to join a successful and experienced department in our Church of England 11-18 comprehensive school.

Hutton is a regularly oversubscribed single sex boys school from 11-16 with 735 students currently on roll. The school is co-educational from 16-18 with 147 students currently on roll. The school was judged ‘Good’ by Ofsted in May 2022 and ‘Outstanding’ by SIAMS in February 2018.

The Science Department is made up of 11 members of staff, including a Subject leader for Science and Chemistry and subject leaders of Biology and Physics. We are a well-resourced department, with 8 fully furnished science laboratories and 1 science classroom. We are supported by 2 technicians and a specialist Science teaching assistant.

Our success can be credited to our hard-working students, supportive parents and committed and dedicated staff both within the Science Department and school as a whole.

Science is taught up to Key Stage 5 in Chemistry, Physics and Biology with teachers teaching within their subject specialisms in the majority of cases. We follow the AQA specification with a large percentage of students being given the opportunity to study Separate Science at Key Stage 4. Many of our students chose to continue their studies to A Level standard at Hutton and we are well equipped to meet the demands of the required practical tasks.

We are looking for a teacher who can use their skills and knowledge to motivate, support and inspire our students to achieve their full potential. The post holder will be required to teach across all secondary Key Stages, including A Level Chemistry. Prior experience of A Level teaching would be an advantage but is not an essential requirement as appropriate support and training will be available to the successful candidate. The post would be suitable for Early Career Teachers.
