Job overview

A full time, well-qualified and creative Teacher of English is required for January 2025.

We are looking for an engaging teacher to support the continuing success of our English faculty. The faculty offers a vibrant English programme including GCSE and A levels in English literature and English language and a variety of English co-curricular activities.

Applicants will be expected to demonstrate an innovative and effective teaching style with excellent subject knowledge. A good English honours degree is required. The role would suit either an experienced teacher looking for a new challenge or an ECT or UQT for whom first class support will be given. We welcome applications from both the independent and maintained sector.

A willingness to contribute to the co-curricular and pastoral life of the school is essential. In return you can expect all the benefits of a thriving independent school: a competitive and progressive salary, pension, professional development, laptop, cycle scheme, lunches in term time and on-site parking.

Further details of the role and how to apply can be found under the ‘Work with Us’ tab at www.claremontfancourt.co.uk or by calling HR on 01372 473720.

Closing date: 9.00am on Monday 3rd June 2024.

Interviews: w/c Monday 3rd June 2024.

Please note that applications will be reviewed upon receipt and candidates invited to an interview before the closing date. We encourage early applications for this role and reserve the right to withdraw this advert if a suitable candidate if found before the closing date.

We are an equal opportunities employer and are seeking applications from suitable candidates from all backgrounds. We are fully committed to creating and sustaining a positive and supportive working environment free from discrimination where staff feel valued and respected. We value individuality and diversity and believe in equal opportunity for everyone, irrespective of age, disability, gender identity, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation or socio-economic background.

Claremont Fan Court School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). All staff at the school share responsibility for safeguarding and you will be required to undergo appropriate safeguarding training.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the school is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

About Claremont Fan Court School

We are a co-educational School, for children from 2½ to 18 years, situated just outside Esher, Surrey. The School is set in the historic landscaped grounds of the Claremont Estate.

Claremont Fan Court School was founded on a Christian ethos and we welcome children from all faiths and from none. We develop in our pupils the intellectual, cultural, physical and spiritual qualities that children must possess in their pursuit of excellence. Our ethos recognises, cares for, and values the potential of every pupil such that they can do more than they think is possible.

Vision and values

Character Education is at the heart of our educational programme at Claremont Fan Court School. Growth in right-thinking and acting opens the way to a more truthful and expansive way of looking at oneself and others, providing a new perspective on perceived limitations and capabilities. Claremont Fan Court School aims to recognise, care for and value the potential of every student, fostering their love of learning and supporting them to high academic achievement, as well as furthering their education in sporting and cultural activities.

We have developed a unique programme for teaching character. This programme focuses specifically on a set of core values and recognises that developing these requires a comprehensive educational approach. A new character quality is introduced each month. The quality is used within assemblies, discussions, activities and curriculum work.

Our extensive co-curricular programme, offering over 60 co-curricular opportunities, enables every pupil to experience activities beyond the classroom in order to tap broader interests and extend talents.

The ISI Report January 2017 noted that: ‘Pupils show pride in their achievements in curricular and co-curricular activities . . . Parents and pupils agreed that these opportunities enhance pupil achievement’.
