Introduction

The Governors are seeking to appoint an inspirational Teacher of English maintaining the excellent standards of learning and opportunity at Cransley School. This role has become available due to the retirement of the current English department leader.

The successful candidate will understand, value and nurture Cransley School’s ethos and will build upon the School’s success, whilst preserving its culture and mission statement of Seeking Excellence; Nurturing Relationships and Venturing Beyond.

The successful candidate will carry out the professional duties of a school teacher as set out in the current Teachers’ Standards.  There may be opportunities for more substantial and sustained responsibilities in the future.

The candidate will teach a full or part-time (0.8) timetable of English across the ability and age range of the School, from KS3 to GCSE, reviewing, enhancing and delivering agreed stimulating, relevant and engaging schemes of work. 

Contract: Permanent, subject to probation period

Salary: Cransley Main Pay Scale only. Additional TLR points may be available for sustained and substantial projects being undertaken.

Personal Specification 

The ideal candidate would have the following key skills, experience and attributes: 

Qualifications and Experience 

  • A good relevant degree, with teaching qualification. 
  • Evidence of training and/or delivery of the GCSE English Curriculum (Cransley School delivers the AQA English Syllabus).
  • Good understanding and knowledge of current educational issues for the 11 – 16 age group.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, in addition to the DFE Teaching Standards.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to listen, consult and discuss
  • Excellent ICT and Literacy skills 
  • Willingness to be visible and act as a high profile ambassador for the School to current and prospective parents, feeder schools and the wider community 
  • Knowledge of multi-sensory, collaborative and interactive problem-solving and investigatory approach to learning in English, with an emphasis of excellent assessment of/for learning systems techniques.
  • Ability to lead, inspire and motivate pupils of all abilities. 
  • Ability to lead and drive innovation in technology across the curriculum, as well as project management skills 
  • Ability to manage change successfully 
  • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Highly efficient, with excellent time management skills 
  • Commitment to achieving the highest possible academic standards including extra-curricular learning.
