We seek to appoint a  qualified, driven and successful Teacher of History and Politics. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced or  ECT (NQT) who has a passion for History and Politics and can teach creatively and inspire our students.

History at St Bonaventure's has a broad and balanced Key Stage 3 curriculum and is a popular GCSE and A-level choice. We aim to create the very best historians and entwine knowledge and skills. We challenge students to think, act and speak like those working in the field would: to research thoroughly, to weigh-up evidence, to understand chronology, to evaluate sources and historical interpretations and develop arguments. We do this by a consistent approach across the department ensuring all students develop the range of skills needed to become confident in their own opinions, make well supported judgements and express them articulately using subject specific historical vocabulary. We are looking for a team member who has a love of History and the enthusiasm and stamina to make a difference.   We have a well resourced faculty with a range of trips on offer.

Politics at St Bonaventure's  is a highly successful and popular A Level subject.  Exam results show that the Department is consistently in the Top 20% of academic A Level providers in the country.  We believe we offer a rich curriculum where students greatly enjoy learning about British and U.S. Politics and large numbers of our students progress onto Politics related degrees at University.  The Department is committed to ensuring students gain a wider understanding of politics by offering enrichment activities including visiting Parliament, attending lectures at top universities and by meeting local MPs. We welcome someone who can continue to foster students' enthusiasm and love for Politics.

We are looking for someone who will work collaboratively to ensure the success and progression of our learners.  You will have evidence of excellent classroom practice and high expectations of student attainment and behaviour.

St Bonaventure’s is a popular provider of education within the London Borough of Newham and we are oversubscribed. We are welcoming, friendly and inclusive.

We are part of the successful and highly-respected Agnus Dei Catholic School Alliance.

We have a long and distinguished history of educating boys, aged 11-18, in the East End of London. Our thriving co-educational 6th Form is ethnically and religiously diverse, attracting students from across many local schools.

St Bonaventure's is recognised by the DfE, Ofsted, SSAT and the Teaching School Council for our investment in improving student life chances and the development of our staff.

We believe that our students have an entitlement to the very best education, with high expectations for all in our community.

We Offer:

An opportunity to be part of an enthusiastic, inspired and motivated team where staff genuinely feel valued and cared for.

A minimum of 20% PPA for all teaching staff.

A teacher friendly marking policy.

No written reports to parents.

A strong commitment to your professional development and career management.
