Job overview

The Buckingham School’s vision is Success for All; success for our students, our staff and our community. By joining us, you will be part of an establishment that seeks to develop individuals holistically, through our seven school virtues, where personal responsibility and self-improvement underpin all that we do. We are a student-centred school, but The Buckingham Way recognises that our staff have the authority, expertise and passion to bring our vision to life. Our flourishing reputation means that the school is now over-subscribed.

We seek to appoint an outstanding Teacher of Humanities (History or Geography specialism). This is an opportunity for a talented and passionate practitioner who strives to lead our students through exploring the skills they need to be successful both academically and as members of our community.

You will be a highly skilled teacher who has the ability to motivate, inspire and engage with students in creative and innovative ways, both within and outside the classroom, working with colleagues towards our overall goal of promoting opportunities for Success for All for our students.

The Geography and History curriculums at The Buckingham School are designed to support students to explore the physical world and multiple cultures around them in the present day, as well as those throughout history in order to understand their own impact on the world. The lessons encourage the students to be analytical, reflective and critical of literature and data sources. This will support them to achieve their potential, in and out of lessons, and promote our own seven school virtues (ambition, confidence, curiosity, empathy, integrity, respect and resilience). Opportunities for you to contribute your own expertise and ideas to make a positive impact within the department and across the whole school are always encouraged.

At The Buckingham School, we teach History and Geography to all Year 7-9 students and have multiple classes of GCSE groups for both subjects. The subjects are also offered at A-Level.

We have a strong CPD programme that we can offer to all staff and an excellent development programme for ECTs, who would be welcome to apply.

In return we will offer you:

  • A professional, supportive and experienced Team
  • A personalised approach to Continuing Professional Development
  • A role in a school that has a clear vision
  • The opportunity to work with students who possess excellent attitudes to learning
  • A learning environment that is ambitious, collaborative and forward-thinking

Values and Vision

Learning and progress are vital to our values. We promote a vibrant, exciting learning environment for everyone, encompassing flexible skill development, technological capability, skilful communication, and entrepreneurship, as well as providing breadth of knowledge, creativity, and sporting opportunities, both within and beyond the classroom, for all learners.

Ofsted report

“Sixth-form learners’ achievement has improved because teaching is better in practically all subjects. Learners are very good role models for younger pupils and contribute much to school life. Pastoral care, especially in Year 7 and for those who have special educational needs or disability, is very supportive. Practically all pupils enjoy school and behave well. They all feel safe. The school prepares pupils very well for their future health and safety. Career advice is good. Pupils successfully learn about spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues blended with an understanding of citizenship and British values. In many lessons, pupils work extremely hard and are totally absorbed by high-quality and challenging teaching.”
