About Clifton College - The Preparatory School
Headmaster
Mr Jim Walton
Clifton College Preparatory School (known locally as 'The Pre') is the region’s largest boarding and day preparatory school for 400 girls and boys aged 8 to 13.
Bristol businessman Dr John Percival, who championed the benefits of science, diversity and the education of women, founded Clifton College in 1862. The college has since fostered the talents of students including General Douglas Haig and Olympic hockey gold medallist Lily Owsley. The NSPCC had its first meeting on the school’s grounds.
There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach at The Preparatory School, spanning Years 4–8. Each child is considered and treated as an individual with a unique profile of skills, passions, talents and undiscovered potential.
Although every pupil has different abilities, talents and levels of confidence, we ask each individual to aspire to the highest standards to which he or she is capable.
We believe kindness, tolerance, good manners and honesty are all vitally important in the life of our community.
