Job overview

We are looking for an inspiring and ambitious teacher, with an exceptional teaching ability, to join our vibrant academy. The vacancy has arisen due to an internal promotion. If you can motivate students to achieve their best, you are passionate about instilling a ‘Growth Mindset’ and can nurture students to see challenges as opportunities to flourish, we’d love to hear from you.

Maths might not be your subject specialism but, we are looking for a great practitioner with an interest in Maths who would like to explore moving into teaching this core subject. We offer an innovative coaching program and would support you to secure and embed enhanced subject knowledge. You may be a PE teacher trying to secure your next appointment or indeed an established practitioner looking for a new challenge. Contact us today if you would like to discuss our opportunity further.

This role provides a real opportunity for you to make your mark, and as a growing Trust with an excellent reputation, there are always opportunities for career development.

BBG Academy is proud to be part of The Rodillian Multi Academy Trust. The academy is oversubscribed, has achieved significantly above average Progress 8 scores in recent years and holds an Ofsted rating of good. The Rodillian ethos of resilience, a Growth Mindset and Positive Discipline has helped to transform schools – from their culture to their Ofsted ratings – as well as the lives of students and teachers.

Here at the Trust, we are committed to doing things differently – creating schools that students want to attend, and where teachers want to work. We raise aspiration levels for staff, students and schools by encouraging creativity in the classroom, and by giving our staff freedom to experiment with their teaching, as part of our pioneering curriculum. A commitment to divergent teaching and teacher freedom provides a stimulating and varied learning environment – this principle is one of the bedrocks of our ethos. All of this is guided by our Positive Discipline policy – a traditional approach to behaviour management where discipline and respect are sacrosanct. We do not tolerate bullying, defiance or rudeness. This has made for harmonious and safe learning environments for our young people, and a supportive environment for staff.

The successful candidate will enjoy access to high quality CPD. You will also be joining a happy Trust where 95% of colleagues agreed that they enjoy working here and 92% would recommend us to a friend or colleague (taken from 2022 staff wellbeing survey). Our commitment to staff wellbeing means we prioritise staff mental health, drive down unnecessary workload and support our colleagues to progress in their careers. Furthermore, our Admissions Policy states that the children of Trust colleagues can attend our academies, regardless of catchment area. You can therefore benefit from the certainty of your children being able to access a high quality education.

Want to know more? We welcome you to come and visit the academy. Please contact Karen Marshall, PA to the Head of School at karen.marshall@bbgacademy.com to book a visit.

The Rodillian Multi Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff, volunteers, visitors and contractors to share this commitment. Shortlisted applicants will undergo relevant checks in line with statutory guidance and all appointees will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure check by the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Completed applications must be returned to recruitment@rodillianacademy.co.uk

BBG Academy is an inclusive 11-16 school in the heart of Birkenshaw. As part of the Rodillian Multi Academy Trust, we hold the highest standards for behaviour and discipline; for aspirations within and beyond the classroom; for support within and around the school.

BBG Academy regularly appears in the top 20% of schools nationally, and within the top three schools in Kirklees based on both progress and attainment.

Ofsted’s 2021 inspection saw BBG Academy rated 'Good' in all areas - a fantastic achievement for all involved with the BBG community. The report indicates that “Staff and pupils are proud to be part of the school. One pupil described the school as a big family."

We believe that every single child can achieve their personal best with resilience and grit - and this tenet is at the heart of everything we do. From Year 7, our students are taught to be resilient in a dynamic, innovative curriculum that responds to educational research and the needs of our pupils.

Students have opportunities to learn how to be resilient in the face of difficulties and failure - in chess, British Sign Language, and in debate (amongst other things) at school - and in physical pursuits and independence found at our Resilience Camps. We teach them that with determination, improvement is not only likely - it is inevitable.

We are rightly proud of our students and their achievements - but it is our colleagues and the support from the wider Rodillian Multi Academy Trust that makes us truly unique.

We ensure that our colleagues have the opportunity to teach without disruption, to continue their own professional development in a bespoke programme, and to ensure they have every tool they need to be successful in their career.

In short, BBG Academy is an amazing place to learn, to teach and to thrive.
