Teacher of Music

Music is taught in a modern, purpose built classroom with a dedicated computer suite and specialist software. There are also a number of well-equipped practice music rooms. Achievement in Music is good and in 2016-17 there were 100% pass rates at AS and A Level. However, for the right candidate there is still the opportunity to improve results even further, in particular by helping students to achieve the ‘next grade up’ and consequently improving the progress made by these learners. The successful applicant will therefore be a highly skilled musician, who is able to provide accurate guidance to our most talented music students, whilst also being able to inspire and encourage students to develop and practise more basic practical and theoretical competence.

An important feature of the role is to build on the College’s reputation and strengthen links with music students and teachers in local partner schools, the Music Centre and other institutions in the surrounding area, with the ultimate aim of improving recruitment to this important subject. Additionally it is essential for musical activity among students within College to be promoted and developed by the successful candidate. Therefore the post includes an additional financial allowance for the development and enrichment of Music across the college and in the student community.

Part-time (0.3 – 0.6 full-time equivalent) + music enrichment allowance
