Teacher of PE & Games (Temporary)  

From September 2018 we have an exciting opportunity for a qualified and enthusiastic teacher to teach PE & Games across all year groups. A particular strength in Hockey would be desirable, with the successful candidate teaching a full range of activities.   

The school has a strong sporting tradition and all girls partake in a variety of timetabled PE & Games activities each week.  Our girls regularly participate at both regional and at national level in a number of sports, competing at the highest level.  

Applications are equally welcome from an outstanding newly qualified teacher (for whom statutory induction would be provided) or from a more experienced applicant.  

The position is full time and temporary to cover maternity leave until December 2018 in the first instance, with flexibility to extend beyond this date.  

Salary is MPS/UPS. The Teachers’ Pension Scheme is also applicable.   

As part of our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, the successful candidate will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Check.

About Wakefield Girls' High School - (Junior Girls)

Wakefield Girls’ High School Junior School is an independent all-girls mainstream primary school in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, that caters for children aged four to 11. 

The Junior School opened in 1881 for children under five. In 1967, the school was moved to St John’s House, a large Georgian structure. The school is now part of the Wakefield Grammar School Foundation, comprised of WGHS Senior and Junior schools, along with nearby Queen Elizabeth Grammar School and Junior School.

Wakefield Girls’ High School Junior School aims to offer academic inspiration in a supportive environment and help develop each student’s knowledge, skills and learning abilities. The primary school puts no limitations on the girls and makes sure their learning environment is free from gender stereotypes and boundaries. Teachers promote kindness, public spirit, empathy and consideration. 

The schools encourages pupils to explore, investigate, share ideas and work together to create a fun, educational experience. This is coupled with educational visits and outdoor activities. Sports is an important aspect of the school, with plenty on offer, as well as music and drama. The school is represented by pupils in netball, hockey, swimming, tennis and athletics, and there are twice-weekly music lessons. Taster lessons are available for girls who want to take up an instrument permanently. Girls have the choice of 55 clubs and activities, which help to supplement their learning.
