Job overview

Haberdashers’ Adams is a selective state grammar school with academy status situated in the small market town of Newport in rural Shropshire. It is a boy’s school with co-educational Sixth Form, although it will become co-educational in Year 7 from September 2024, taking approximately 30 girls into year 7. There are five forms of entry and currently about 1050 pupils on roll; approximately 100 of these are boarders. The Sixth Form has about 370 students of whom about 120 are girls.

The Religious Studies Department.

The Department consists of three full-time and one part-time member of staff. It is located in a modern humanities block, which includes three well-equipped RS classrooms and a large departmental office.

RS is compulsory for all pupils in Key Stage 3 and an optional subject at GCSE and A Level. In years 7 to 9 all pupils are introduced to the beliefs, teachings and practices of the six major world religions. At GCSE, RS is an optional subject and pupils study the AQA GCSE RS specification focusing on Christianity and Islam. At A Level we follow the OCR RS specification where pupils study three modules; Philosophy of Religion, Development of Christian Thought, and Ethics. We are very proud of our GCSE and A Level results, with pupils consistently achieving very high percentages of A*-B at A Level and grades 7-9 at GCSE Level.

The Candidate.

The Department is looking to recruit an outstanding teacher of RS. The successful candidate will teach RS at Key Stage 3 and A Level.

Applications are welcome from ECT's and from more experienced teachers.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take part in extra-curricular activities.

Haberdashers' Adams (formerly Adams' Grammar School) is a co-ed selective state grammar school in the market town of Newport, Shropshire, founded in 1656.The School welcomes boys aged 11-18 as day boys or boarders, and girls aged 16-18 as day girls in our Sixth Form.

Entrance to the School is highly competitive. The most common points of entry are via an 11+ examination or following GCSE exam results. Former pupils of the school are known as Old Novaportans.
