Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed fulltime teacher of Physical Education to teach P.E for GCSE, across Key Stage 3 & Key Stage 4, and to deliver high-quality lessons and support students to achieve their best. The role involves working as a Form Tutor in our strong pastoral team and teaching PSHE, as well as leading an extra-curricular activity. This is a fulltime position commencing in the new school year in September 2024.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare curriculum for assigned timetabled classes and groups, taking into consideration the differing educational needs of the pupils.
  • Develop appropriate and differentiated schemes of work to ensure that the aims and objectives for the teaching of PE is delivered.
  • Monitor and track pupils’ achievements at regular intervals subject to instructions of Head of Department or other senior colleagues.
  • Secure and sustain effective teaching of the subject, evaluate quality of teaching and standards of pupils’ achievements, and set targets for improvement.
  • Ensure the discipline and safety of all pupils in the assigned groups and classes.
  • Deliver high quality teaching and learning as well as curriculum development across the Key Stages.
  • Keep up-to-date about subject development and to take part in in-service training for this purpose
  • Participate in arrangements for preparing pupils for internal and external examinations.
  • Make provision for pupils of differing ability in all subjects.
  • Create a stimulating class environment which promotes effective teaching and learning
  • Perform the roles and responsibilities of a form tutor and work closely with pastoral team to provide pastoral care and support the wellbeing of all pupils under their care.
  • Teach PSHE as part of the pastoral support programme.
  • Demonstrate and inspire an enthusiastic and committed approach to extra-curricular activities.
  • Create a culture of achievement where students wish to do their best and are rewarded for doing so.
  • Participate in departmental, and other, meetings which relate to the curriculum and organisation of the school.
  • Take part in the review, development and management of activities relating to the curriculum and organisation of the school, including supporting development and improvement plans
  • Consult and liaise with parents and attend meetings arranged for that purpose.
  • Participate in professional development and training as required.
  • Be involved in the development and delivery of extra-curricular activities and enrichment opportunities across the Key Stages.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the school, both within the curriculum and beyond.
  • Identify appropriate resources for the subject and ensure that they are used efficiently, effectively and safely. This includes off site facilities and school residential trips.
  • Develop and implement subject policies, plans, targets and practices within the context of the school’s aims and policies.
  • Participate in the break duty rota, as assigned.
  • Undertake cover duties for colleagues as assigned.
  • Carry out such other duties as are necessary to meet the needs of the school and its pupils as directed by the Head of Senior School and Principal.
  • The post holder will be required to be a champion for innovation and continuous improvement and, with it, demonstrate a flexible approach to their role.

Special Conditions

  • Work outside of normal school hours on occasion, with due notice (e.g. sporting fixtures, parent evenings, other evening events)
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing needs and priorities within the school

Person Specification

Essential experience, skills and abilities

  • A recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, B.Ed.)
  • Minimum three years’ teaching experience in a UK School (preferred) or experience teaching the British curriculum including GCSEs and A levels
  • Experience of teaching PE across all Key Stages including GCSE at Key Stage 4
  • Experience of teaching pupils with English as an additional language
  • The ability to work with a range of pupils at all levels
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good humoured and positive, with good interpersonal skills
  • Enthusiasm that inspires others
  • Proficient IT skills
  • A desire to work in an international school environment

Desirable experience, skills and abilities

  • Experience of teaching another subject
